Bad rattle/knock on driver's side...
Anybody else have this? I get this heavy rattle over like every other bump. It sounds like its coming from either the driver side door jamb/latch, or somewhere in between the driver's door window and the drivers side back window...somewhere in that area. Its really annoying just because its right behind my head. Anybody experience this? Any ideas on where its coming from?
If I had to describe it, it almost sounds like a socket rolling around in the side plastic on the interior or even in the quarter panel....not to say thats what it is, thats just how Im describing the sound lol

It doesnt sound like a heat shield to me, but next time I bring it in to the shop to change the oil Ill check the undercarriage thoroughly. I think its too clean of a sound to be coming for underneath, that usually gives you more of a muffled knocking.

does your car have a sunroof?
If so see if the rattle follows the sunshade being open or not. There is a bulletin out for a sunshade rattle fix. It sounds just like its in the right door area by the seat when your driving the car. However its comming from the sunroof sunshade when its in the open position.
Now if you hear a clunk clunk from the rear that occurs after you've been driving it for about ten minutes and are stopped at a light. Its the Canister purge solenoid. The pcm puts the canister purge through a self test about ten minutes after you start driving the car. If your stopped at a light when it happens you will hear a distinct clunk, clunk, clunk clunk. Thats normal. You will hear it echo through the body because of the way its mounted to the car.

rukee I have a same rattle that sounds like its comming from the passenger door by the latch area. However if I open my sunshade it occurs and if I close it its gone. my car needs the sunshade rattle fix done.
While I'm at it I am going to take the time to explain the difference between a bulletin and a recall because people do not understand the difference.
Recall: Recalls are issued due to a safety defect that has the potenential or has been proven to cause the potential to harm a consumer. Recalls are issued by a manufacturer when NHTSA has determined that the defect has the potential to cause harm to the consumer. Recalls require the customer to be notified by mail.
Bulletin: Bulletins are issued to guide the dealership to correct a customer complaint not related to potentially causing harm. Bulletins are not recalls. A bulletin handles a customer satisfaction issue when the item in question has been determined to be functioning outside of design intent.
I am a GM engineer my opinions are my own.

ok two major rattles, the sunroof if you push the visor all the way back it will vibrate and rattle it sounds like its behind your head, just let the sunroof push the visor back any further and it will rattle and 2 the heatshield under the car will rattle from the downpipe if you have aftermarket theres a how to with the kartboy hangers that i did took care of my 2 major rattles.

About the sunshade tip...... is that the part in the sunroof , or the sun visor that every car has? My car doesn't have a sunroof so thats one less thing to rattle 8)

This happens with the sunshade open or closed. I do have some rattles from the sunroof/shade, but this one is different.
I dont think its the defroster covers, it sounds too "heavy". Those have rattled before and they didnt typically sound like this. Im leaving for work now, so Ill try pulling them off just for the hell of it.
Okay, so on my drive to work I finally determined Im almost 100% sure where its coming from. While driving I pulled my door handle to open it, but didnt actually open it...so basically the door was still closed, but not tightly. The same noise was still there over bumps and it was louder. Im almost 100% sure this sound is coming from the door where it latches to the jamb. Any thoughts on fixes?

its the door striker ,mine does it ,grab the door striker and move it up and down and you have your pop noise /the fix is/ remove the striker dont worry its not adjustable /and spot weld the striker rod to the backing plate to stop movement /grind smooth and reinstall /it really works

I have the same noise on my driver's door...took it to the dealership...said they adjusted it and it's fixed. I pulled outta the parking lot and what do ya know...the noise is still there! But according to the tech working on the car "it's fixed".

Probably sway bar links. Mine were changed once already. They released a new one in the spring. My HHR had 2 pairs replaced on it then they put the new ones on. No more issues.
