Basic Cone Filter Swap?

Hey guys,

So, my friend recently bought an SS t/c. As a temporary mod, we were planning on removing the stock intake resonator (being that there is one) and hacking the stock intake just in front of the MAF and simply installing a K&N cone (or similar) on place of the stock triangle air-box. Is this ok to do, or will this just cause problems? I know that the stock air-box is actually a pretty good system, and generally, unless you replace the whole thing and do a tune, you're actually hurting the performance. We're just looking to open the intake growl up a bit. If not the filter swap, would you still remove the silencer (if there is one)? The reason I keep saying silencer is because it looks like there is one similar to how there is on the 2.2 and 2.4.. He's gonna do more later, but this is a temporary thing.. Any input will be great. I just don't wanna mess anything up on a great running car. We just wanna get the thing to growl a bit more..

Thanks!

No do not do it. Leave the stock airbox intact and just wait and get a real intake.

Wow, please dont do that, you will regret it later down the road and it will probably look like **** no offense

Just bite the bullet and buy a Intake, there really not that expensive

As Term said, do not do this!

Our MAF is very sensitive, if you do this the fuel trims will be way out of whack. The most you can do to the stock setup is the snorkel mod and a K&N Panel Filter.

Snorkel mod..? Expand please..

And 10-4 on the K&N panel. Now, should he get the K&N panel or just leave the paper Delco? I had a K&N cone on my Injen, and I actually went to an AEM Dry-Flow..

I figured. That's why I wanted to make sure. Thank you for justifying this..

But I would like to know more about this snorkel mod.. Is this basically the silencer?

Here you go https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/2-0l-lnf-performance-tech-153/factory-airbox-mod-163744/ Basically the snorkel that goes down into the wheel wheel goes from about 3" down to 2" and then back to 3" with this mod your removing this narrow section of pipe it helps the airbox flow a bit better. Also ditch the stock paper filter and get either a K&N Panel Filter or an AEM Dry Flow Panel Filter.

So essentially just remove the silencer? Essentially? That's what I figured. It looked like that was there from both of our cars (my 2.4 and his old 2.2)..
