Basic Help Needed..

Hey guys,

So, a fried of mine just picked up his new SS t/c yesterday.. Only ever driven the SS s/c before, and this thing was incredible.. Regardless, after he gets his tint on this week, he's gonna get a few basic mods done.. Now, being that I'm new to working on a boosted car, I'm not exactly sure.. So any help would be greatly appreciated.. Even guiding to other posts, etc.. I'm all ears..

He wants to get an intake first. We were looking at the system, and it obviously is large to connect everything. Is there some particular company he should look into where it's a good product at a reasonable price that'll pull decent power and be remotely easy to install? And how exactly do you go about putting it on? It was much easier in my car.. This one is huge and has alot of stuff going on.. I don't want to mess his **** up.. lol

Also, he was asking about the BOV.. If I remember hearing correctly, there's don't technically have a BOV, correct? Like the Saabs.. But can you still put something louder on? I thought I remembered seeing SS t/c's with louder BOV systems.. If so, how to install, and who to look into?

Lastly, he thought he heard about being able to raise boost on them? I don't know.. If so, how and to what? But after getting it tuned, what's the max it'll handle?

Sorry for being "that guy", just trying to help a friend out.. i'm gonna get him on this forum, but he's new to forums.. lol Thanks!

The TC doesn't respond well to cold air intakes or bov's. Get the GM stage one, exhaust and intercooler for good starter mods.

i dont own a tc, but from what i read stay away from aftermarket intakes, airbox mod is more then enough. some people have bov's on aftermarket charge pipes but im pretty sure it needs some fine tuning. you dident post anything about downpipes, wich that would be a good place to start as terms of modding. and a tune is the best bang for the buck

Since these cars have learn down.. an intake without a tune will be a waste... but either AEM or K&N

We Don't & Don't

Tune.. any tune... iunno max 27psi??? good luck with the motor lasting

if he gets an intake make sure he gets a tune to tune the maf correctly or the car will run like **** i think aem has the best intake but im not for sure on that im sure someone will chime in with the correct info. and as far as intake install if its a cold air he will have to remove the headlight to remove and install everything. and as far as tuning i would go with hp tuners over all other tunes if you have a local tuner around with it but make sure the tuner knows what he is doing. and as far as bov just with an intake people will think he has a bov so install the intake first and see if he wants more noise but yes you can install a bov on the car. and as far as the power the engine can handle it will be fine on the stock turbo just worry about if the tuners good

Tell him to get a downpipe and a tune first, he will be happy with that for now

K&N 's new intake is working out well for most.

If you tune it, stay at 22-24 psi max. The piston ring lands will be happier longer.

Backyard Turbo (Nick aka BYT) is a good tuner in your area. Look him up here.

Downpipe and tune are the biggest gains like RYR said.

Our setup has a BPV, (bypass valve, it recircs the air so the mixture doesn't go wonky) not a BOV.
If he wants to hear it, the K&N intake will do that for him.
