best tune
just an fyi.....a write entire is a total rewrite of the ecu. it is not a flash. they are using a tech 2 to see if there has been any flashes made to the ecu.
If you do a write entire the tune is undetectable by the dealership with a tech2 snapshot. now if they dig further they may find evidence but after a clear tech2 snapshot they really have no reason to. I know this from personal experience....if you don't believe this go do a search on the hptuners forum and see what others (reputable others) have to say about the whole deal as well.

I just had my car in for warranty work about 2 weeks ago. My uncles buddy is a mechanic there, he knew what I had done to the car. I asked him for ***** and giggles to see if he can tell I had my car tuned before. I did a write entire before I went in with my stock tune and they couldnt find anything. So as far as Im concerned my dealer cant tell me my car has been tuned!
But hey every dealership is different I guess?

The 2008-2010 Cobalt SS does NOT keep track of how many times it was flashed. If you flash it back to stock with a "Write Entire" in HPT OR a "Force Full Flash" with Trifecta, there is NO way for the dealer to tell it was ever tuned. Even if it did keep track of the number of flashes, they couldn't see what was done, just that something was done. 2011+ cars DO have a flash counter, and it's in the BCM so there's no hiding it.

I personally have HPT and Trifecta experience. HPT is definitely more powerful, but I feel Trifecta is safer. Depends on what you want. If I were you I'd determine what's more important.
Granted I'm sure HPT is safe especially if you do what the tuner asks, but with Trifecta I know it is safe, but it all depends on your beliefs and goals. With HPT you have various tuning styles and with TF you have one and that's conservative.
I'm buying a K04+ next year (was this year, but decided to pay off some credit cards lol) and I figure a conservative tune is probably more my style, but man do I miss feeling my boost kick in 3rd gear with HPT. Now I floor it in third and I feel like I don't have a turbo lol.
Anyway, take that how ever you want. I know I didn't give you a solid answer, but I feel like answering your own question is the most rewarding.

This is my thing with Trifecta. How do you know its safe? Are you doing the datalogging or is Vince? With hpt u see everything thats going on and your the one making the needed changes, not someone over email.
They can find out but they have.to truly go through it.......... Really the only way is to send **** off. ..... And trust me on this one i know lol but ^^ they can always find out if someones been tuned.
Ya they could find out, but no dealership is gonna do all that unless its coming down to big money. If they really wanted to they can send it out and get the results but y? The dealership isnt the one spending the money on warranty work. GM pays for it, so unless its something big they wont find it.

There's options to see what Vince is doing.
A good tuner will discuss your goals with you and tune you based on that if possible or point you in the direction of other things you may need to meet them.
I preferred having the person tuning my car to be doing it in person instead of emailing stuff back and forth.

If that's to expensive you can get...
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/part...dapter-261756/ or find a really cheap one on amazon or ebay
and get an app on the android market. It has pros and cons to ScanXL, but for the most part it's sufficient.
If you have iPhone you have to get a Wifi ODBII adapter and get an iPhone app, but works the same. Although I feel Bluetooth is more accurate and reliable than a wifi tether.
