$700? Did you buy the zzp stock turbo and have them install it? Good deal then. Ive been on 24 psi for over 2 years now. no problems yet. 24 psi seems okay, I think there are just some turbos out there (a very small number) that are just bound to blow no matter what.

Isnt that like a couple grand? This was with the new turbo and all parts included in that price. I paid no more than that price for parts and labor

I priced it at like 2 grand

Quick observation, did about 2 pulls with my base tune and the turbo boosted to 22 twice. The failing turbo boosted to 24, is it possible the old turbo with bad seals and bearing required more boost to make the same amount of power?

Why in the world did you get a new exhaust manifold? You could've saved yourself an extra $200 right there.

I had to, generally a cracked exhaust manifold isnt usuable anymore. Dude I paid 700 for everything installed. You cant even get the turbo from GM for that.

You never once stated it was cracked. You confirmed it was a blown turbo. Still don't understand how you cracked the manifold.

It was probably the standard crack in the exhaust manifold

Yes i did, go back a page(if your own mobile) and read my reply to leemanfor about excess oil. I clearly state "bearings are shot, exhaust manifold is cracked"

Not exactly sure didnt see it, but on the turbo side, right where it connects to the exhaust mani, there is a splitter in the center of the pipe kind of like an S. That had a crack right through the middle of it. Tech said the exhaust mani had a crack from inside to out. Didnt get to take the blown turbo

What causes that? According to the tech, the exhaust mani had a separate crack. I dont mind, my payment amount didnt change before or after they told me the mani was cracked

yeah you got fucked if that was the crack, 100 bucks says your current manifold will have it too after a bit. it doesn't hurt anything.

not sure what causes it to crack but its not a big deal for the operation of the car. I think all the turbo cobalts have that crack. I havent even looked at mine and im certain its there. Not a big deal. The new one will crack too. Im sure the service guy didnt realize they all get that crack. he just knows it didnt come from factory that way.

Meh, i don't think so. Remember my qoute from my fam friend was 700 before they even got the car. Nothing changed when they found the cracks in the turbo n exhaust mani

Yeah but not a big deal to me. The manifolds were essentially free. Bad design? Overheating?

considering new turbos from GM are more than what you paid for both + install you didn't get screwed, but now when a tech tells you the manifold is cracked in the middle where it "scrolls" the exhaust to the turbo you know its a ok!

I bought a new K04 from the Classifieds for $250 back when everyone was ditching their stock turbos. Keep an eye out and buy one just to have an extra. I haven't needed it, yet, but I'm on a 21 psi tune.
