Blowoff valve help!

hey guys just purchased a 08 SS TC stock everything.

im not really into racing as i used to be ( at least not for now ) so i just want to add simple things to the engine like possibly an intake and a blowoff valve ( which is a must ) since i want it to sound sexy!

now what do you guys recommend me to get? I'm not trying to spend much on it but obviously i want good quality.

Thanks

I personally wouldn't recommend a blow off valve cause they are a waste of money on a cobalt. They can also be hard to tune because the car is best made to recirculate not vent to atmosphere. To each his own though.

but you're saying its a waste of money because the car is made to recirculate not vent or because they don't sound as nice as other cars? ( EVO, SRT4, ETC )

They sound nice but you will be happy with just the sound from intake not as loud as a bov but loud enough to hear and enjoy

Not really a waste of money IMO. Same as power coating your rims of tinting windows. People do these thing's so people notice their cars and to stand out from the crowd. And a Bpv/bov will really get you noticed. In a much better way than a loud exhaust.

An intake will bring out a beautiful sound. I recommend trying out the Forge BPV. No tuning required and it's an easy install. 3 Bolts and a rubber tube. Costs $175. If this ain't enough sound for you, you can pay bigger bucks for a BOV setup, but than you will need to buy a block off plate, MAF relocate, aftermarket charge tubing, custom tune, and the BOV itself. it will be pretty costly for just a sound upgrade with 0 power gains.

Then there is the Forge VTA. Same as the forge bpv but it vents it to atmosphere and is 3 times as loud. Requires a special ECP trifecta tune($300ish) and is the same install/cost as the BPV, can be used with stock charge tubing. Some people on the forum are against the Trifecta ECP tune and Trifecta in general(Hptuner biased peeps). I've been running the ECP/Forge VTA for the last year/25,000km with no problems, and Trifecta 24psi tune before that for 30,000km. but I admit it's not a lot of mileage/time but so far so good.

An SSTC will sound just as good as a subie/evo/srt4 with a BOV/VTA setup. You can buy the exact same BOV's as them and it might even be louder since we can push 24 psi on the stock turbo safely.

All you need is a K&N SRI. I never even put a Forge BPV on mine.

the minimum you will need for a blow of valve is upper and lower intercooler pipes so you can relocate the maf to the lower chargepipe and a tune to compensate for the atmospheric discharge, thats what i have and it runs and sounds great

I would recommend the forge atmospheric. Here's a video of one on my car with no problems so far. I've had it over a year.

That sounds very nice! It sounds like you have exhaust as well, right?

Anything that vents to atmosphere on these cars needs to have the maf recirculated. If anyone tells you that you can vta and tune around it there are full of craps. Trifectas ecp tune is the wrong way as well since it won't relocate the maf.

As a new member I recommend you do a search because there's probablly 500 threads on this topic alone.

Blow off valves are a waste of cash on these cars on terms of performance and what not. It's a noise maker which by adding a short ram and a forge valve or keeping a stock valve you will hear it. Is it loud? Not extremely but it will save you the money of buying a charge pipe and having flanges welded to relocate the maf. If you go big turbo and don't go the efr route then a bov is a must.

Trifecta ecp tune is a pile of crap, it's super rich fuel trims and that's just the start of the ugliness

I deff know that I'm not getting any performance with a BOV but I want it for the sound. I've looked into the short ram intake but at the moment it's out of my budget ( until next month at least )

If you can't afford to relocate the maf then you need to just wait. With a stock intake you won't hear the bpv either

Think about this a bov is more than likely going to cost you $700+ when you get everything you need to properly work on this car, for a noise maker. Brand new you should be able to get a forge bpv and kn sri for just over four, used could be even less they show up here pretty regularly.

I'm assuming that is not including an intake or a tune and finding used charge pipes with a bov flange
