Can A Tc Owner Fool Gm?
Can A Tc Owner Fool Gm?
i dont have a ss/tc, i have an ss/sc, but i was curious about something. a tc was modified by hahn, changed turbos, ecu etc... and had to go in for a repair, is it possible to detune the tc, remove the new turbo, etc etc, so gm will not know it is modified?
ye it does, doesnt it
you know what, i made a ridiculous thread, because even if someone could fool gm, the process of de tuning the car and putting everything back will cost more than ANY warranty repair
The consequence of an all nighter!

if you have somebody tune it for you, then you would have to pay them to take it back to stock and then take all the aftermarket parts back off, if you have an upgraded exhaust or dp, that may work for you, but with an upgraded turbo etc, prob not woth the effort
but not sure if the ecm still holds that tune info within its memory even if the car goes back to stock tune?

These threads always make me cringe...do people think that GM doesn't have people that read posts on these sites? Not only does it make me mad that people do this type of thing, it makes me mad that they openly announce their intentions to GM.
While I understand your reasoning for doing this (and it is tempting), it really causes problems for those of us who choose to honor the terms of our warranty and expect GM to be willing to take care of our claims. There are so many people out there who are deceptive and make it hard for honest people to have warranty work done on their vehicles.
I can only imagine that GM has instructed their dealers to be much more skeptical of warranty claims on Cobalt SS's than Buick LaCrosse's...thanks a lot deceptive Cobalt owners...

couldn't help but lol
Technically, If any modification you've done to your car have a single branded "not road legal" or "racing only" part in it, your car will be immediately and techanically became "not road legal" (cough *catless dp* cough), the dealer will have every right to not to even touch your car.
If you don't want to void your warranty, don't mod; Otherwise man up.
yo
i work at a chevy dealer...and they can find out if u modified a car or not....the new tcs got the black box in it like all the other cars and it tells u how fast u were going and stuff when a specific thing caused the engine light to pop up....also they when they hook up the tech2 to the car they can find out the how much air is going in and fuel its using..misses fires and pretty much anything else..everything shows up on the tech 2....what people dont realise when u modified ur car.. all the nuts and bolts are messed with and they can pretty much tell if this car was modified also and if everything was also torqued the proper way... they all can tell by ur oil also ...cuz every car that is beaten on if u look at the oil theres metal filings in the oil...and right there u were beating on it
even if u do change the ecu...once u take the ecu out it shows the milege that u had when u took the ecu out...
so when u do put the orignal ecu back in and they scan the obd2 the milege on the car doest match the milege on the ecu. so they will know..but even when u do swap the ecu.. it has to real learn its self...and they can find out if ur senors and monitors arent ready..when u do the inspection on the car, they will notice the car senors arent ready...and even u do swap the ecu and the engine light did pop up on the ecu,and u swap back the original ecu..it wont have the reason why the engine light came on....so pretty much they will say i scanned it and theres nothing wrong with it...also even if they do open ur motor up and u used nitrious the top of the pistons will be so black on the top....cuz the car was gettign more combustion then it was...and right theres they know u were beating on it....
