Cobalt - Burned Down...
Cobalt - Burned Down...
**** happends.. Cobalt had an electrical fire with battery cable.
a spot in the cable that went through/under rear seat bracket must have wore, and arc'd and caught the seat on fire.
More of less/ Its a loss. Complete roof, interior, dash, rear, doors. All burned.
There has been 1 other report with the insurance of a 08+ cobalt catching fire in the last month. So if any of you are bored, check that wire and see if the seat bracket is wearing through. Sure its rare, but it happened & it was factory & factory location
Ill have pic's when i get car back this week as i'm buying it back, i will be putting good/non burned items up for sale .
The car that replaced that cobalt. Is a 135i - trying BMW as my business partner and best friend have modded 335's so well see...

i kno exactly where that is 2... i have taken my back seats out close to 20 times and you have to run ur bat cable below the seat cushion but above the bar. if GM put that wire underneath the seats u would have worn it through easily.

yeah,. sucks i only owe like $7k on the car lol
Ah, I thought you were talking about the 135i which I would be very surprised if it would ride harsher than the Cobalt. The Cobalt really doesn't have soft suspension, maybe you need to go ride in some normal cars again to regain some perspective ha.
Yeah. You are going to love the 135i. I test drove one a while back and it felt very nice. It certainly feels like it has more torque then my E46 M3. I have also seen a few piggyback computers for them which bump the horsepower up 50+hp for only a few hundred bucks....wish it was that cheap to modify my M3...Haha....sorry about the Cobalt but enjoy your new 135i.
I can has driveline to build AWD T-bucket? LOL
Seriously though, what's the buyback on your car?
ever consider having a Tubbed/backhalfed CBSS? You've already removed most of the interior for me...lol

You would think but if the Cable arched really badly it could start the fire before the fuse broke the circuit. The seat foam and carpet are pretty flamable. Maybe his nitrous system and wiring had something to do with this?
???.... There will be no arc'ing from 12 volts. Sparking yes, but no arc'ing. A fuse would definitely prevent this, it is one of the primary uses for them. The fuse will fail before it carries enough current to cause a fire.

12v will most certainly ark and burn things. I accidently forgot to disconnect my battery one time wehn I was working on one of my audio systems in my previous cars I accidently touched the 4 gauge power wire to the body of the car and it arched and welded itself to the car before the fuse blew. If it would have touched the carpet or seats it would have caught on fire. Ever accedently put a wrench across your battery terminals if you have you would know that 12 volts is more dangerous than you think.
