Unfortunetly guys after 4 hours of tuning on the dyno all we could get out of this thing was 340 whp and 290 wtq. I figured for 20 psi it might put down more power. I'm hoping either the motor has to break in more because it has 500 miles on it now or that the stock charge pipes and catback are causing a major restriction but I dont know if this thing has another 100 whp left in it even with another 7 psi. the stock intercooler seems to be pretty good since its performing at 15 degrees above ambient.

The good news is that the power curve looks great. it spools early and torque peaks around 3400 rpm and plateau's across the whole powerband. Hp climbs slowly and holds to redline my power peaked around 6760 rpm.

And to make matters worse before we were done tuning my brand new engine dumped oil all over the dyno. I think the front main seal I got from GM was defective but this was beyond frustrating and this puts my cobalt off of the speed channel if its not back together by sunday.
What did the car make stock on that dyno? Your tune definately needs a lot of help based on those timing and A/F numbers alone. Too rich and not enough timing.

You need to raise the fuel pressure, number 1. I suggest you employ a local TF dealer to come flash it with a layered file from Vince.

car made about 235 whp stock and 285 whp at 27 psi. the car has no mods on it other the the zzp kit. timing I didnt get a chance to add before my oil went everywhere. what would you recomend for afr and timing

A/F should be 12.8-13.0 range timing should be about 21* max 10-14* in the midrange on 20 psi. Higher boost levels (27 psi) same A/F, 15-16* timing max and 6-10* in the midrange should be fine with no knock. You should get a larger more efficient IC like modern performances or ZZPs.

The car is a lil rich still but for the bigger turbo it's not TOO bad. I would lean out just a tad once you get the fuel pressure correct. Bump up the boost to 24-25psi and work the timing from there on the DYNO. I stress on the dyno because it's easy to get past the peak timing point and not knock

yeah I'm going to get the intercooler and charge pipes when I take the turbo to higher boost levels when the motor gget some more miles on it. and im goin gto try those timing settings

yeah I always tune on the dyno so thats no problem. but im not sure if I should take the boost that high on a motor with only 500 miles

I know what you mean nick but sometimes the dyno tells only half the story.

Get the oil leak fixed drive it another 500 miles or so then crank it up.

When working with a much bigger turbo and higher power levels you can easily pass the peak timing/power. Ive seen it happen many times

Sometimes though the car likes the extra timing as far as boost and throttle response goes even if you pass the point at which the dyno shows gains. That is why I like street tuning so much.

Stupid question. You sure its a load bearing dyno? I know that a non load bearing dyno or a dyno that doesnt have the air brake kit installed, to simulate the road, doesnt load up the the engine enough to spool the turbo properly and it causes weird numbers like that. Your vette dynos on that dyno fine cause its not boosted. You sure that dyno has done boosted cars before?
I know its a really dumb question, but it happened to me on a dynojet that wasnt equipped with the air brake kit so it wasnt loading the engine enough to spool the turbo properly. I was getting 270whp on a 24psi Trifecta tune, when, on another dyno, I put down 290 on an old 21psi hp tune.
Just saying man, it doesnt help that you blew a seal and spilled oil everywhere either, so that could be pointing towards some other unknown failure.

yeah it was a mustang dyno and it has seen alot of boosted cars. so no prob there.

Ah okay. Just checking. Sometimes the littlest things can be overlooked. Hope you get her running like she should with that kit man
And I mispoke about your vette not being boosted lol Sorry.

I'm assuming you have the stage sensors?
Since you don't have any of the Trifecta fixes you probably ran into issues with the throttle not staying wide open and fuel pressure, as mentioned.
Don't worry though, your numbers are very similar to mine with pretty much identical a:f and timing.

BYT, have you gotten very far on cmiller's car?

that's what my engine guy thinks. but nothing will be confirmed until its taken apart. I will let you guys know. im sure its installer error which is ridiculous since the guy I sent it to build engines for mosler the supercar company and deals with 1k+ hp lsx motors on a daily basis

actually I don't have any new sensors and di you have the same setup as mine?

Finally today we are making some break thru's. We had a base file for the wrong MAP sensors at first that was killing us. Vince was willing to give us ZZP's file (and ZZP also didn't seem to mind TOO much) but we kept working our own and it's finally acting properly. Getting the boost curve right with this setup is quite the task right now lol. I give them a LOT of credit for doing the first one and figuring it all out.

I have the ZZP 252 kit so it should be very similar to yours, differences are:
GM Stage 1 sensors
Upgraded intercooler and aluminum charge pipes
Trifecta throttle control and increased fuel pressure

Yeah, it's tricky! In the little bit we have messed with it, just turning up the boost hasn't done a whole lot, I'm going to spend a whole lot of time on it next week.

**update**

so apparently my car hasen't leaked any oil after last night. It puked up abloust 2/3 of a quart on the dyno during a power pull. And that had stayed dripping but once it was all dry the engine didnt leak anymore and it has held the 4+ quarts left. any ideas?

nice what power did you end up making

data log says the throttle was open 83% does the trifecta fixes change that and was that what you got

Still stuck around 350-360, going to resolve that soon.

The trifecta will fix that, with the stage one sensors and no fix the throttle was all over the place. Once out of 10 pulls it would hold 85%, the rest of the time it was 35% or 50%.

I would start with that. get full 3" exhaust .. I am not sure how he runs the s252 kit on a stock charge pipe ????

can you list the entire setup ?

I hate when you get the wrong file...

Happened to me once too.
