Tremendous load of downshifting at too high of speed will generate a boost spike.
Quoted for truth. What an idiot this guy is. "Yeah, I shifted from 3rd to 4th and my RPMs actually CLIMBED. My PCM caused my engine to defy every known fact about gearing."

I miss shifted my RSX-S once. I got lucky with that one but for a brief moment I saw the RPM needle peg out and beyond on the 9,000 RPM stock gauge. YIKES!!

Anyway, I broke my car too. It's getting torn down now for mostly likely a broken piston. I'm not arguing right or wrong necessarily about warranty but me personally.... I'm just paying to have the work done and I'll just put in better parts. (Forged Pistons if it's in fact a piston that broke)

Another way to look at it is just that if you take it for warranty you'll end up with all the same parts all over again, just waiting for you to break them all over again. I'd rather pay some cash now and forget the headaches later.

Yea we all know you were driving dude but mistakes happen.. your car wont just spool up instantly to 8000 rpm if you hammer it in 4th... I wasn't there so I don't know, maybe you were in a corner or something but you down shifted when you meant to upshift or so it sounds. what you are describing when shifting from 3rd to 4th jsut defies the laws of physics.

Wow someone else who does it the old fashioned way... I guess I'm not alone.

I want to quote this for posterity. You're even dumber than I thought.

Just because the dealership covered it doesn't mean GM will. When GM rejects it then the dealership pays. After they get burned a few times doing this you can bet they wont want to cover much of anything legit or not.

You tuned it knowing that it could damage the car. You missed a shift. The damage is your fault. Pay to play.

I love this US Federal Law - Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act - the dealership I go to, even has this LAW posted on the wall next the service/parts counters.. My dad was denied legit warranty work (#2 DI failed), but once he called the State DA's office, the dealership called the following day to cover the work.. yea the Mazda had a K&N air filter, but to say "the K&N air filter caused the DI plug to fail"? really now? For last 1 year 1/2 now every time he goes to get the oil changed on the Mazda - it's on the house.

Doesn't matter that he tried. He saw that he couldn't and is going forward with having Chevrolet pay for his mistake.

One if I wanted to fix it I could've. Learned today the tune had gone bad. Will be getting the report from what the computer read. Since the tune was on the car when bought under a GM ceritified warranty that included the tune. So now its getting repaired and a new PCM will be put in. Sucks but just to know it wasn't my fault and a mess up in the tune I feel better.

A tune that caused you to shoot to 8K RPM going from a lower gear to a higher gear? Whatever, man. I agree with Wanger on this one.

What we don't believe is you because your story about "I just shifted from 3rd to 4th and it happened" is an impossibility.

I was accelerating and was at full boost. I'll try to photocopy the report and post it. All I'm gunna say is the boost spike is crazy lol

Same thing happened to me about 3 months ago. wierd ticking noise under the valve cover but not really loud. Car still ran good so i thought it was the cold weather. Took off the valve cover last week to paint and found 2 rockers laying in the lifter valley. Also chewed up the exhaust cam pretty good. Anybody upgrade their cams yet and have a spare exhaust cam laying around? Le5 cam will work too i believe. Need to get this beast back on the road! If not i guess i'll have to find some money for the zzp head and cam upgrade. :-)
