I just got back from a test drive with the evap purge solenoid disconnected and with it connected. When it was disconnected idle and cruse felt the same. I did a few WOT in 2nd gear from 20mph. 4 out of 4 times I broke traction (I know that not a true measure of power, but I don’t have a dyno). I also did a few WOT in 3rd gear from 40mph. I felt like I was getting pushed back in the seat a little more. I stopped at a gas station and reconnected the evap purge solenoid. I did the same runs. WOT in 2nd gear from 20mph. 2 out of 4 runs I broke traction at a higher rmp. I did the same 3rd gear WOT run from 40mph. I did not feel like I was being pushed back in the seat as much. I don’t know if braking traction is a good measuring stick. I could have hit sand, colder tires, different surface, etc., this all could have caused me to brake traction. The one that I take more serious were the 3rd gear pulls at 40mph. I felt more acceleration Gs when the evap purge solenoid was unplugged. However I don’t have a G meter so maybe this all the placebo effect. Thoughts?

THREAD REVIVAL!

im having similar issues as you guys yet more extreme in my case.

-so when i fill up for gas, its hard to start and takes some finaggling with the gas pedal
-once it does start afrs are all over the place (anywhere from 10s to 18s) and idle is rough
-whenever i go into boost, the needle pegs out all the way around at like 50 psi
-whenever i go into boost then let off the tach drops all the way down to like 400 rpm and revives itself. if the pull is really hard the engine will die and be hard as hell to start again (similar to after filling up with gas)

i just took it to the dealership this morning, had a tech ride with me and talked to another tech about my symptoms. they dont believe its the evap system at all even though they are going to take a look at it. they believe its the tune thats doing it and in that case will not do any work on it.

other than initial start ups, idle, filling for gas, and going into boost, the car drives normal under light load so its not too big of an issue so far.

if anyone can help me, i would appreciate it!

EVAP Engine code

i just bought an 06 SS and after a day the engine light came on. i took it back to the dealer and they said that it was just a loose gas cap. funny because i didn't have to put gas in it yet. anyway they cleared the code and the light came back on. i took it to autozone and the said it was something to do with my EVAP. i took it back to the dealer again and they said it was just a loose hose. they "fixed" it and cleared the code again. now the light is back on. obviously they are not gonna fix it. can somebody please tell me what i need to do get it taken care of so that i can pass inspection.

Doesn't sound like EVAP system. But dang, you shouldn't have even mentioned the tune to a dealer.

New Part Number

Update:

The part number for the Evap Purge Solenoid has recently changed. I haven't seen the new one, so I don't know if it's physically the same or if it's been changed/revised.

Old part number (printed on driver side of the solenoid): 12608378
New part number: 12592015

Just an FYI for those still having trouble.

I threw the p0496 code on my first run at the strip on Saturday, cleared the code on Sunday, found this thread on Monday and disconnected the solenoid today. Car runs much better now and I know what to order to fix the problem. saved a trip to the dealership!!

Thank You

Anything emissions related unless you tamper with it should never be voided due to performance mods.

I disconnected mine for 30 minutes, after that the cel came on and was 2 codes, eval purge sol. And something else didn't bother looking at them cause I knew it was from the evap. Cleared them and everythings good, but I didn't really notice a difference with it unplugged

If they only knew that a purge solenoid can cause erratic a/f at idle.

That erratic enough? It would do that about once a week for a few seconds at start up. I knew what was up pretty quick

Funny I was having similar problems so I took my car to GM and the tech recommended me using the Evap Purge Solenoid off of the 2011 Camaro RS just cause of all my mods? Me been skeptic about it ofcurse took my own approach and just bough a new one, (Problem solved) He also mentioned to check the gas cap, it could be bad or any boost leaks.

I got that P0496 CEL today, car had erratic cold start since i done repair of the broken lash adjusters a couple weeks ago, i had some unstable idle at coldstart before the repair, and some erratic coldstart once in a while, may be 2-3 times per year...

But since about 2 weeks the engine run erratic at each cold start for a second or 2 then the idle will vary a little for few seconds and then its alright when catwarmup is almost done.... i also noticed sometimes it feel rich, exhaust tone ''sometimes'' isnt as ''clean'' as it was before... i got retuned a week ago thinking it was my intake, it helped since fuel trims were slightly off , it runs better since retune, but now that i got that code that was probably the problem...

Any idea on wich solenoid valve i should change?
the evap solenoid on the canister near fuel tank or the evap purge solenoid part 12592015 that is on the intake manifold?
