discovered something weird today

so i was wanting to relieve fuel pressure before i take off my valve cover today, and i took out fuel pump fuse and relay, started the car, car would not die, ran it for 5 minutes reving it, car just would not run out of fuel, shut it off, started, sure enough pump didnt prime but car still kept running, drove it a bit, nothing stupid thing didnt run out of fuel, so i put them back in, primed the pump, turned it on and pulled the fuse when it was running, car runs out of fuel and dies in like 30 seconds. wtf??
