Do you need a new gasket with a new Down Pipe?

What’s up everyone? Yeah just like the thread says. Do you need to install new gaskets with a new down pipe? I am just planning on reusing my old gaskets and putting a small amount of gasket maker (Ultra copper) around the old gasket.

Is that even necessary? Should I just get new gaskets? Do you even need new gaskets if the old ones are ok? Is the gasket maker overkill?

Lol I am paranoid about getting every last drop of HP/TQ out of my mods.

Yeah, you can reuse the front DP gasket (the round one that sits down in the DP)--IF you can get it out. The old gasket was stuck in my old DP. I tried for all I was worth to hammer it out with a screwdriver, but no use. Had to order a new one. So I had to put the car back together with the old DP. Bummer.

I'd get a new gasket before starting, unless you have all the time in the world and don't mind the possibility of having to do the job twice like I did.

The rear gasket is no prob. You can reuse that, too, but I ordered a new rear gasket too since I was ordering the front one.

I got universal socket joints from Harbor Freight. Even so, I had to seat the joint half out of the socket to get enough bend on it to remove the top rear DP nut. So it took the socket, the universal joint, and 2 six inch extensions to get the DP out (the "PITA" upper left nut in the front wasn't as much of a pain on the lift).

Also, I loosened the O2 sensor while the DP was on the car, then unscrewed the O2 sensor after I had the DP out, holding the DP in the air. To reassemble, pre-twist the wire the same number of turns it will take to screw it in.

You're too cheap to buy a part that is $20 AT MOST but you want every last bit of power? Moron...

I torched out the bolts to get my old gasket out and I reused it, no leaks and no problems.

I've replaced my downpipe a couple of times and reused the gaskets, no problem.

I'm glad to see that bone heads are able to read. Most people are going to get the most power for the least amount of money (makes sense). Only bone heads pay more because they think it is cool.

Used original downpipe gasket.. wasn't even stuck on at all.. I guess it may depend how much heat was built up there from driving it too hard too often.. that's just my logical explanation. =p

I just installed my catless down pipe.
Thanks everyone....except for one....you know who you are >>>:-)
Yeah I only found my rear gasket. I did not have a gasket on the front of the DP, is this normal? Anaways I just used ultra copper gasket maker for the front of the DP. Everything seems good to go. I went from a high flow hahn to a catless hahn. I notice a little bit quicker response, and I smell more fumes. It’s like how older cars exhausts smell. My dad has a few old corvettes and they have crazy exaust fumes. I always thought it was because they were old. Now, my car's exaust smells like that. Lol guess that's because back in the day they did not have catalytic converters. Now we have cats and loose HP and MPG. Freaking EPA! Lol

btw it was crazy hard to brake free the nuts. I had to use a 18'' steel pipe to increase the TQ.

I did mine last year... can't remember which side had the gasket lol.. thought it was the front idk but ya.. them bolts were a bitch, especially that one that was almost impossible to get at. The catless Dp was a cinch to put on compared to getting that stocker off.. what a royal pita; 18" pipe sounds close to what we used lol

The gasket on the turbo to DP connection is a crush donut, hopefully yours stayed in the turbo side.

It's best to replace it whenever you take it apart, it crushes to fit.

Look carefully in the catted DP you removed, hopefully it isn't in there.

I looked all over the DP I removed. There is no Gasket in it. I am guessing when I got the catted DP installed the guy who I took it to did not reinstalled the old gasket. Maybe its on the turbo side, but I looked all over it, I did not see a lip for a gasket. It seems like everything is working fine, but I will keep an eye on things. Like I said I used ultra copper gasket maker on the turbo side, that should do. My next upgrade will be a MPX lightweight flywheel, but I dont think I can do that my self lol.
