Don't break your shift linkage
Don't break your shift linkage
I have a friend with a 2008 Sport Red SS/TC and last week he broke his shift linkage and his car has been sitting at the dealer waiting for repairs. Meanwhile he is in a rental car.
Turns out that because of GM's relationship with the supplier, they can't get any more shift linkages at the moment, possibly due to not paying the supplier. The estimated shipping date for his shift linkage is in JANUARY 2009!
I imagine this issue will carry over to other parts, and could be the reason why I still have 10 ECMs on back order.

Word of Advice: Your warranty will get you a rental car right now, not neccesarily a replacement.

FTW I want you to come here or I'll drive there and tune my car with new pcm soon as you get it ... Why can't you make the linkage cables jerry rigged style? Are you gunna be able to do the clutch relars I take it
The clutch learn has to be done on the actual car. If you drive here (like 12 hours away) I have a dealer that will do that for us. And yes I have 10 blank ECMs on order. I sell a lot of the ECMs to the Solstice and Sky crowd every month (~20)
Linkage roll pins are SO....... easy to fix.

tell him to get his car back and do it. You can get new roll pins from napa. This thread is hilarious.
Now all the other posts about their cars falling apart and stuff, I dunno. Good luck with all that. I haven't had any problems with mine. I must have bought a good year. lol

Well you wouldnt have to get a rental b/c you have a howto right in front of you. I had to take all of this out for my clutch install, its alot easier than it looks. All of those bundles of wires clip into the fuse box holder so it is really easy to work with and plus non of them are the same size so they all have there own place

Times are hard for everyone cut them some slack, they will get there **** back together soon enough. I have had 4 new gm cars and my parents have had 10+ and all totaled together we have them in the service department 3-4 times and nothing major.
This is (one of the many reasons) why my car doesn't go near a dealer. They're all *********.
Why can't they order it from another dealer? I'm sure a GM dealer in US/CANADA has one in stock. It's such bs. They probably fixed it and are out ripping on his car, lol.

haha yea most likley ive been tempted to beat the poop outta mine a few times to get a new motor, but i only got 3600 miles on it so its real pointless. but thats awesome to see a tc go in the 12s!!!

NO IT'S NOT A ROLL PIN OR ANYTHING NEAR THE TRANNY. Read below...... the dlr is also not ripping on my car...( they sell the most vettes including the new ZR1's, in the south west U.S. so they have respect) It has the same miles on the odo as when I dropped it off plus, it's covered in dust and dirt from wind and rain so thick you can't see through the windshield.......
Broken: What's broken is not a roll pin, it's the plastic ball linkage that holds the cable to the shifter itself under the shift boot...(a shifter upgrade would help but void the warranty in this area) .... The cables pop out when the plastic gets worn, they break...I think they need to use metal for the ball linkages, all greased up.
The same\similar linkages\cables are used in the Opel GT AKA: The European\rest of the world Cobalt.. This part is also shared with the Saab 9-3 turbo 2.3 from 2005-2007, and the manual tranny G5 GT...Trust me... my dlr has gone to the ends of the globe to get this part and no one has it...No one even has shift cables>> These are on back order and might get replaced..
But we did do a no-no at the dealer... The Service Director went up the chain at the dealership and will be removing another new SS cars shifter link for my car... now wasn't that easy!!!!!!!!! and put that car in back (it's an 09") and replace that part when the one ordered for me comes in.......

Which ones? Links
I'm on my third bit of work on my shift cables\linkages, which is lemon-law buy-back status in Az. (GM has no $$ for a buy back....)....
I'm at a respectable dlr now too... The other two times I had warranty work for these cables\linkages I got my paperwork but the new dlr says there's nothing in the system about my car ever being in for warranty work, so keep all your reciepts!!!!
Number one vette dlr in the west and the most sold new ZR1's in the U.S Vans chev in Scottsdale.. The Dlr that made my warranty work disappear off their computer was Courtesy....
