Easiest and best place to start power mods?

I am making this for a friend of mine that is building a SS/TC. He knows how to build them and repair them back to stock but knows nothing when it comes to power mods. And to be honest, I am no expert either considering I am new to boosting and have a LSJ.

Where is the best place to start for more HP? I would think exhaust and CAI, but do they make stage kits like the LSJ and what do they consist of?

thanks guys.

You're gonna be seeing a lot of the same posts in here over and over.

Just to make sure I understand, your friend is building the motor up? (i.e. better rods, pistions, valves, etc.) Or just bolting mods on?

DownPipe and Tune are the two best, but if he's really gonna build it, he's gonna want catback, intake, charge piping, etc. and do all the mods before tuning unless he wants to keep retuning.

The ss/tc does have a stage 1 kit, and it is new sensors and a flash. brings it up to 280hp and 320tq.

He may BUILD it one day but he is actually taking a wrecked TC and putting the parts into a shell. So taking two balts and making it into one essentially.

Thanks a lot guys. Where do you go after Charge piping, exhaust, tune, etc? Internals?

I'd choose ZZP for atleast the catless dp and upper CP and then tune I'd have to say BYT or Term...

Once again that's just my opinion

He wouldn't happen to live in Ebensburg, PA would he?

1st thing to remember is without a tune anything he does for a power adder gets learned out of the system to maintain the factory hp/tq ratings.

Good starter mods are:

aftermarket down pipe
upper intercooler pipe
ZZP stock air box mod
Tune- either Trifecta or HPT

Make sure to get the tune with the mods above and you will be sitting above +300 whp

He bought my factory IC, we chatted a little in PM's.

My family lives in the same exact area, Mom & Dad (Portage), Brother (Cresson) and both my sisters families live in (Nanty Glo).

Tune is the most crucial part. Before you start with bolt ons check out some of the E85 thread that was posted up... Some of the guys on here are getting numbers similar to mine with a K&N drop in and a tune for straight up E85. Not to be lazy but if I could have got 360lbs/torque at the wheels with a tune I would have... lol bolt ons take alot of time haha

I pretty much concur.

high flow catted or catless downpipe + tune = cheapest way to get the most hp

Otherwise add these for good measure:
intake
charge pipe(s)
intercooler
forge bpv
I would only say a 3" cat back is needed when you want to go well over 300whp.

Intake-not needed, ZZP mod has been proven to be as good as an aftermarket unit
charge pipe(s)-lower not needed, not a restriction Upper needed due to exploding and pancake restriction
Intercooler- factory perfect for stock K04, don't bang your front lip off curbs or can break or you can do the condensation bar removal mod.
Forge BPV- I wouldn't order till you start having problems with stock BPV.

Agree with everything else.

Now if the OP's friend has money to blow, then go on a spending spree. MY guess is he doesn't since he basically pieced a Cobalt SS/TC from multiple wrecked cars.

I'd start with a Tune, it's the quickest way to feel the power.

Then get other stuff.
