engine prelube before starting new motor

I have an lnf motor that has been sitting for a couple of years that I'm getting ready to fire up and was just wondering if anyone goes to the trouble of prelubing the motor using an externally pressurized oil supply before starting.

I did a search but didn't find much on the subject other than talking about prelubing cam parts during a swap. the motor is a used low mile unit that I've kept sealed up in the garage and have turned the crank a bit every few months to keeps things from sticking.

I was thinking of spraying a little oil into the cylinders through the spark plug hole and possibly pressurizing the oil system through an oil galley hole if I can figure out the right one before starting it up just for insurance.

any suggestions?

All of the recommendations I saw when putting in my ldk was to unplug the injector wire from the harness and let it crank for a few seconds to get oil flowing. However, if your fuel rail is dry it's going to crank a while before starting anyways and if you pull the plug you'll have a mil code to clear...

If it's used fill it up and crank with no spark or fuel for a few seconds. If you really want to put the first two quarts of oil straight down the oil filter hole, the oil will reach the bearings faster, thats what you do on new built engines

No need to unplug anything...hold your foot to the floor and crank the car for a few seconds. It wont spray any fuel when you foot is to the floor on the gas pedal

thanks, good suggestions

I think it's worth mentioning also, I'm going to pull the spark plugs also so it doesn't build compression while getting the oil to circulate while cranking. then put them back in and fire it up. might not be necessary but I think it would take some pressure off the bearings for the short time before oil gets to them

Couldn't hurt. Anything to reduce the load can't hurt. You could pull the accessory belt off temporarily if you wanted to, though that might not be much.
