Exhaust ?

So I called my local exhaust shop and they said nobody in town has a machine to make mandrel bent exhaust. He said something about it being crimp or some **** like that, anyone know exactly what he means? I said something about it being crushed at the bends, but he said crimp or whatever. Anyways, he said he could do 3" from the catback with no muffler for like $175, but its crimp bent or whatever he said. Sound like a good deal or no?

No good!

crimp, or crush bend pipe is no good, it necks down at the elbows, because the machine"crushes" the bends instead of nice smooth mandrel bends.

so it maybe 3 inch on the striaght sections then neck down around the bends that will inhibit flow.

do not buy it.

mail order a mandrel bent kit

I want to buy a mandrel exhaust kit, and they have one on the mandrel exhaust system website, but it says it 2 bolt flange, but it has an option box to get a 3 bolt flange. I just dont know if it will still work. Either way, I might call the website and ask.

im pretty sure turbo tech sells the 3" mandrel bend hahn kit for both the sc and tc. you have to mention you have a tc in the messages box when you buy it.

http://www.turbotechracing.com/produ...dcategory=5617

it will be exactly like the sc except it has the correct tc flange

UMMM!!!! Look at the price difference, $595 for the Hahn on TTR, or $195 for the mandrel exhaust, without muffler, which is what I'm looking for, but I just gotta see if the mandrel exhaust can be bought with a 3 bolt flange, rather than the 2 bolt.

ok ok i dont know y everyone wants to run full straight exhaust just going to get pulled over twice as fast and then have to remove it hahaha

if thats what you really want then get a mandrel kit and get a matching flange from a muffler shop they should have them in stock
or even ebay but you better request exact measurements before you buy

LOL, I've been running no cats and loud ass exhaust for like 5 years, and havent been pulled over here. The Cops here dont care 2 ***** if your exhaust is loud, just if its smoking really really bad. I would know, I'm a Police Officer myself. The website says they sell the kit with the 2 bolt and 3 bolt flange. Or I could just get something fabbed up.

Yeah you could say I'm lucky, but like I said, there are quite a few car clubs around here and many loudass cars, and I've known any of them to get pulled over. Either way, I rather go cheap, because they're both gonna work the same.

if you are just looking for sound, why not stick with the 2.5 stock exhaust(already mandrel bent) and just cut the muffler and have a 2.5 straight pipe welded in?

2.5 inch exhausts are good till like 450 wheel which 99% of tc owners will never achieve

You know what, I never thought about that. And I didnt know the stock exhaust was mandrel bent. I always thought, regardless of horsepower, that a 3" exhaust was always better on a turbo car. I guess I could just get the muffler chopped and have them weld in some piping with a nice tip. What I also didnt think about, is that exhaust isnt really gonna add that much power, if any, its just gonna give it a nice rumble.

If you seriously just did take off the muffler and add in some 2.5" piping with tip and it sounds really good, I guess I'll just do the same, which would save me atleast $100, probably more.

I'll have to check out the sound and price of it first, because if its like the Hahn exhaust, I wont buy it.

..............I have always heard if you have over 300whp it is best to go with a 3".It wont net you any HP (no bolt-ons will give you power without a tune on a TC).I don't know how it will sound but N Srt-4's don't come with mufflers from the factory.....

Yeah I know about the tune thing, I'm trying to figure a way for me and my Brother to get a laptop and HP tuners so we can figure out how to tune our own cars. I've heard the straight pipe with no muffler would sound good, so either way I will have some type of aftermarket sound and not quiet. That is actually one thing I did know about the SRT-4, that they came stock without a muffler.

yeah dude like I said i just took the muffler off. I mean the exhaust is factory stainless steal and mandral bended. Unless you are doing a turbo swap this exhaust will flow with any bolt ons you put on it. If you want I have a camera i can make you a sound clip tomorrow of the open exhaust. It's awsome.

If you dont mind, I would love to hear a clip of the exhaust, especially if it sounds that good and is so cheap. Thanks

Sounds pretty good for what it is. I might have to wander on down to my muffler shop next Monday and have them hook that up for me. Thanks for the video clips!! Where abouts is Belleville?

about 10 minutes from St. Louis. I've lived all over the state but finally am back down here where i am from. I went to Eastern Illinois University for a while. Oh and btw make sure you go to a good muffler shop because very few of them weld Stainless Steel which is what our exhaust systems are, and a lot of them try to use crimped pipes instead of mandrel bended. Make sure you know where you are getting, just to give you the heads up.

Either way, if I'm only getting the muffler cut off and a piece of pipe put in its place, it shouldnt matter, crimp or mandrel. Isnt the pipe straight? Either way I know my muffler shop only has crimp.

are both of these with the resonator in and muffler deleted

it sounds quiet for a straight pipe with resonator to me
