External Wastegate?

Just curious , coming from other turbo cars , is anyone considering making the new TC cars externally gated? What would be the possible problems?

I second that. I'll consider going external if/once I do a turbo upgrade. I'm pretty happy with how the stock internal one sounds. After about 500 miles is started to wake up and now at 1700 miles its really starting to sound nice! I'm intrigued to hear a couple external ones though and hear a modded TC with one!

well in the WRX community, it even helped with the little td04. Spool was amazing. And that was only at 14lbs. With our turbo capable of 20+ , I still think it would be a worthy upgrade, and it will be there for when one does go bigger.

You cant put an external gate on our turbo's, the wastegate is right beside the turbine wheel. For it to work they'd have to be separate.

o8blackss/tc is getting a gt3076r put on his car and the stock manifold was moded to accomodate for an external waste gate. ask him for the link to the picture.

also synapse turbo said they were going to try and make multiple manifolds for an arrangement of different turbos and they were going to try and sell one with external waste function but i have not heard any newer info on their manifolds for a while now. best to ask the source.

wrong!

external wastegate makes a sound louder then a bov..... they release exhaust gases into the air to reduce exhaust back pressure which creates a loud ass noise

thats why our cobalts are internal because external are used for bigger turbo applications

I know what the wastegate does and what sounds it does and doesn't make. the context that he was using made me believe that what he was reffering to was a bov/bypass and not a wastegate. you don't buy a aftermarket wastegate for sound.

lol no problem. a tial 38mm on a equal length such as synapse's manifold would deff be nice for tuning and such but the garret/percision turbos that are intern. do a pretty good job reg. boost. so I'm not sure if its cost effective to buy a manifold and gate?...
