Front brakes on the SS?

I have spent all morning trying to find front rotor replacements. All i find are threads of people saying that the front rotors on the SS are not brembo's blahblahblah ... does anyone recommend a certain company or website to get front rotors? Thanks.

You should try R1 Concepts they have rotors for the TC that a few people have and seem to like really well.

OEM

Why do you need different than OEM rotors?

They're beefy, and slotted and drilled rotors only take away surface area which is gonna tear up your pads faster and are more prone to cracking.

I doubt you are getting the brakes hot enough where you're warping them

Only drilled is prone to cracking and only if they are actually drilled.

"Drilled" rotors that are cast with the holes will hold up fine.

Although what you said is correct, no need for anything other then OEM especially since these are Brembo rotors.

No they're not.

Only Brembo part of a SS/TC braking system in the calipers.

That's it.

GM rotors

Ferodo pads

Aftermarket does not always mean it's better, people need to get off the kick of 'if it is stock, it is junk'

go with hawk pads and rotors from R1 Concepts
i love my brake set up
Crossed drilled rotors look awsome with the Brembos and the Hawk Pads brake better and almost no Brake dust

well IMO, the stock rotors ARE junk, they dont ever stop squeaking or makin noise no matter what ya do, i would just get an aftermarket set of SLOTTED rotors... think of it this way, if GM really ****** cared about makin the cobalt ss a real ss, they would have thrown a FULL set of brembos on it... meaning ROTORS too... **** GM for that kind of bullshit. they put all this fancy **** on the corvettes and camaros, but not their fastest production 4 banger??? FUCKED UP. that, is my opinion.

Uh. You do realize that the rear brakes on the Cobalt barely do 25% of the braking right? Its not like its an awd car. Of course GM doesnt care but its still a 20-24k sport econobox.

The cobalt doesn't need rear brembos, the car is light enough to not require them.. And as said earlier the rear brakes do less than 25% of the braking..

FYI brembo rotors are out sourced, they just slap their name on them..

True, but they also do 75% of the wearing lol. Mine are now squeeking when stopping and grind when backing up. The backs are scored to all hell. Im at 8500mi and they were already resurfaced once by the dealer at like 2000mi

Im eventually gonna replace them all with Hawk pads and R1 slotted rotors. Whats the difference in the "regular" rotors and the "premium" rotors???

performance brakes are going to squeak and produce dust. There are tradeoffs for everything, you can't have silent, dustless brakes that never heat up, and never wear, but provide the ultimate in performance. You have to make sacrifices. Why don't people understand this...

the rear brakes are due to the parking brake mechanism, and no rock/debris shield.

Just throwing it out there... My front brakes started sqeaking around 7000miles on my '09 SS, so I took the pads out to see what's going on and both backing plates fell right off. That was the problem, right there. So, I glued them back on how the factory would and there's no more squeaking. So for those complaining, check the backing plates first. It's not like it's a very difficult job to do.
