Check your manual. My 2007 SS/SC take 6 Liters of Fully Synthetic. I would think yours is the same.

No the car for sure takes 5 quarts. I looked it up and it is 100% 5 quarts.

If you put 6.5 in your LNF you have a problem.

to the guys with ss/sc's: your pan holds 6.5 quarts. The LNF only holds 5 quarts (just like the 2.2/2.4)

I had the same problem, dealer put in almost 7 it takes 5...here's why they put too much:
  1. They all make the mistake of assuming it's an SC not TC
  2. GM Customer Service says the oil level information is at the bottom of the page under a secondary tab for dealer information....real ****** smart
  3. People don't ******* listen

hmm i wonder if this has anything to do with people leaking oil from that sensor they drove off the lot with 7 quarts to much pressure maybe

I think the camshaft sensor leaks period the o-ring isn't large enough to seal properly but too much oil pressure likely doesn't help the matter any. I noticed almost immediately it was too high and had it resolved within a day but there was a substantial amount of oil build-up after the mix-up and I was cleaning it off almost daily to monitor it.

With 7 quarts in it the dipstick should have showed it being overfull. Did you ever check your oil before the oil change?

The dipstick in these cars is horrible...I have 5q (4.8L) now and it still shows above max but I had the dealer drain it in front of me, show me the 4.5xL (again add 300mL for my filter) and the dipstick still reads a little bit off.

THE DIPSTICK IS ONLY A TOOL, NOT a calibrated measuring device such as a jug of oil would be!

Don't think with your dipstick, JIMMY!!!

I buy my oil in the Mobil 1 5 qt containers. Makes it pretty damn easy to measure out there. I put 5 quarts in and it is right on the bottom of the dipstick.

Wow , i haven't changed my oil yet (1700 miles) so i didn't realize these cars could be that far off. The dipstick in my SS/SC was right on .

You know the filter doesn't retain oil, right? At least, not more than a teaspoon or so.

7 quarts is WAY 2 much in your TC if its only supposed to take 5 dude... Did it puff black smoke or have any kind of sputtering??? Cause if it does anything at all you DO NOT want to keep running it and turn it the F off right away! BTW everybody should be checking there oil level frequently because these cars do burn up a quart every once in a while and need to be topped off before it gets 2 low.

Doesn't retain permanently but still has to be taken into consideration depending on when you check your oil level. Hence why the manual reads "pan + filter: 5q (4.75L)"

Holy **** 8 that's ridiculously high! Glad you noticed and got it resolved that much overfill is NOT good for the engine by any stretch of the imagination.
