help understanding intercooler
Ok so hres the thing. I put in my downpipe today everything went ok but i noticed something about my intercooler. A nice big chunk was taken out of the bottom. Possible rock or curb I'm not quite sure which. The question is this is the only piece that was damaged. The intercooler itself remains undisturbed. But my question is if this is a guard to protect the intercooler or some type of heat sync. Question 2 is it dangerous to be driving it with a hole in it. Question 3 is there a part number or something i can replace this with. Thanks.
sorry man that is what sucks about this car you have to get a new intercooler it is there to help with little bumps and I also belive air flows through it. Time to buy the zzp intercooler and get a tune you should have some good power

But as to replacing it, you should go to dealership an ask if its under warranty or not.. or go to your car insurance co and get a claim for it, it is claimable..
my OEM FMIC was destroyed when a beaver took it out, doing triple digits.. nothing else got destroyed - knock on wood.. my car ins co took care of it the next day, with an aftermarket part hehe..
Ur fine. relax. put it back on and drive it. no air passes through that. Obviously if a screw removes it and it slides out of the intercooler with no gaskets or anything how would air pass through it without leaking everywhere. Plus theres no passages through it. believe its a water catcher. just put it back on and everything will be fine
ok cool guys thanks for the help. We had guesses that it could have been something like that or a condensation catcher. After some playing around with it we found both are exits of some sort. So we are just going to epoxy the hole shut and stick it back on. thanks for confirming my suspicions guys.
