High Pressure Fuel Pump Tick- GM bulletin but does not include 2010 models

Recently I noticed a tick that I never heard before.

I could not hear it when it is in open loop but once has been running for a few minutes the idle drops and you could hear a loud tick every 1-1.5 seconds. I used a mechanic's stethoscope to confirm it was the high pressure fuel pump.

I took it to the dealer, and they said the tick is normal due to GM Bulletin #06-06-93-001G, which included 2008-2009 Cobalt SS/HHR SS.

A few days later I compared the tick with a 08 HHR SS with 30,000 more miles and the tick was less apparent.

Also the bulletin does not include 2010 models, Was the fuel pump changed in 2010?
Any guess why my tick is quieter than other models with more miles?

Normal. You're just paranoid. When I first looked at Cobalts I thought there was something wrong with the ones I was looking at.

If it bothers you to much, just go to crate engine depot site and order the rubber cover they have to dampen the sound.

there is a recall on the fuel pumps. it was finalized on the 12th of this month, so just call gm and change it out for piece of mind.

The HHR you listened to may have had the HPFP noise cover in place.

I can't remember if mine came with one or if it was a service visit installed item, but at some point I ended up with a noise cover over my HPFP. I later took it off so I could get to stuff easier.

Since they don't have return ports on their fuel canisters, that recall could not apply to LNFs.

You might want to check your timing chain. I had an issue with an unusual tick, different than the standard hpfp tick. The first dealer I took it to said it was normal. I didn't believe them, took it to another dealer and told them to take off the valve cover and inspect everything. Sure enough the timing chain tensioner and timing chain was the issue. The tech said he had seen many ecotech's with this problem

Thread from the dead but the rubber cover he is talking about is actually a molded foam piece that goes over the pump. Lemme look up the gm part number real quick.
Edit: the part number is 12628069, you will remove the metal shield around the hpfp and this foam section is molded to fit on one way around the pump and lines. Then you put the metal shield back on. Gm calls it a insulator so when you look it up it may say insulator or silencer or cover depending where you buy it from.
This is about what it looks like

May look slightly different now, they use basically the same one on everything with the di ecotec after 2010.

Do you happen to have the fuel pump part number for this as well? I'm working on something with a similar tick and wondering if I can get this dampener to fit (slight modification would be ok with me but this is the same problem on an LF4)

EDIT: the two pumps are very different I will explore other options and possibly make my own.

Fuel pump part number for a lnf? There wasn't a bulletin for replacing the pump specifically for noise. What does a lf4 go into.
