Is there any way to tell for sure? I want to make sure mine is real, I bought it off ebay for 150 bucks, but I am starting to think it might be fake. Anyone know what I can check to know for sure?

 

HKS badges?

 

ya it will have HKS badges, like engraved in it, post pics, ill tell u if its fake or not

 

It has HKS badges on it, but they are stuck on with what looks like double sided tape on the top and both sides. Then a round one on the back with a hologram HKS logo, all held on with a double sided tape like material. Does that mean fake?

 

Look inside at the plunger. It should be embossed with "SUPER SEQUENTIAL" I think

 

Yeah it says "sequential blow off valve"

if its real it shouldnt be anything close to double sided tape even the look though if im correct?
I've had 3. My first was fake. I think all the HKS logos should be embossed right? and 150 off ebay for a gen III?

Post pics I can help you with this.. The biggest thing is the box it comes it will tell me.. Open the main box and take a pic.. Im thinking of doing a write up on how to tell the fakes from the real.. This seems to be to common.

 

Yeah that's what I was thinking because a lot of websites said the logos are "cast" into the metal body not double sided taped. Other than that and the C clip it comes with not having a tapered edge at all it looks legitimate. It also came with 2 different style flanges in the box which from what that site says makes it fake.

Sucks that this is such a common thing. Another reason to spend the extra few dollars to buy from a reputable dealer.

 

buy it from a real dealer and not ebay...

 

you know what they say about hindsight...

 

thats why i buy all my stuff either from the company or from the dealer.

 

For anyone interested, the BOV did in fact end up being a fake. One of the best fakes I have ever seen. Biggest give away was the snap ring not being stainless steel and not having a tapered edge. Also there was only one solid piece piston when the real one has a dual piston setup. The real one also does NOT have the HKS logos held on with double sided tape.
