Hp limits?

Has anybody experimented with putting a large turbo on there cobalts I understand that we have the tuning ability via hp tuners and we have the stock fueling capability to support high hp numbers and I've seen multiple kappa platform LNF engines with big turbos, so what gives has nobody done any custom turbo swaps yet. Whats holding the engine back.

Secondly does anybody know what the engine can handle in total I've ben been told that the LNF has an LSJ block. The internals can be replaced but does anybody know at what point the LSJ block fails.

Thanks for any replies

If you read around on the solstice/sky forums you will find more info about the limits of the LNF. I cant remember off the top of my head but it seems like 400HP is about the most you want to run on the OEM engine. I'm not 100% on that but I think its close. I can't remember what the week link was though. If I had to guess I would say the block or the pistons would be the limiting factor. I am sure some one on her has a better idea though and will be able to help you more.

Thanks for the info. I just checked that place out there are multiple guys running 400+ whp on stock internals with no problems thus far but they said thats about as high as you want to go on stock stuff. There's also a guy building a fully built engine on a sleeved LNF block shooting for 800+ whp so will be able to see the limits of the LNF. But does anybody know why nothing has been tried on this platform yet.

Well, the first problem is fitting the turbo. The stocker is small and pretty wedged in there. Secondly, the car has only been out for about 6 months, most ppl are still breaking them in.

There are already a couple turbo upgrades for the lnf on the solstice forum, ranging from a 16g all the way to a gt3076r. Also theres a compressor wheel ugrade being worked on now, should net you around 50hp more than what the stock turbo is capable of, so around 350whp total.

yea but like said b4 the turbo is kinda crammed. look at the sky. there engine is sideways compared to ours and they have SO much room for bigger turbos. and they are RWD so there tranny is diff. so idk if ours can handle 400 whp..

Well it's the F35 from the SS/SC so at what level of hp does the LSJ tranny fail at.

That is true right now because of the lack of aftermarket support, but if you look at the LNF engine itself I believe that it can potentially put out more hp. The make or break point for this engine I believe is in the direct injection fuel system. Direct injection can let an engine run serious pressure that a port fuel injection engine could not. Look at the BMW 335 they have 10.5:1 CR ratio and there are guys running 15 psi safely. And very few of them have had problems most of which are overheating those small turbos. But it's a double edged sword because also on the 335 they can't replace the fuel injectors which is why they topped out at 450 whp. If we can't get bigger injectors to work effectively then like the 335 we will be stuck at a hp cap. The block can be sleeved with ductile iron and the internals can be replaced with forged pieces, it's the fuel system that will make this engine better or worse than the srt4 motor will just have to wait and see.

So pretty much were going to have to modify the firewall to fit a big snail.

SRT-4 are better to mod tho... their transmissions can handle a lot of power.. and they have strong motors.. i think they can do about 400 whp on stock motor... but mods for srt-4 are like endless.. we will have to wait a while to get the support thats out for srt-4.. my friend has like 1500 into his srt and he runs like 13.4 while launching at 1k rpms... his car would run high 12's if he could catch better traction...
