Hp-Tuner Question
Hp-Tuner Question
My current tune is from HP-Tuner but the guy who tuned me is like 500 miles from my place -_-
Someone in my town is selling his kit for 300 bucks
Can I buy this kit and be able to make some modification to my own tune even if its another one who tuned it?

Each interface has a certain amount of credits tied too it. If he has used up the 8 credits that come with the cable, then you have to buy new credits. It's 50/credit and most cars take 2 credits to tune.
As for being able to tune your car with it's existing tune, you need to know if your tuner locked their tune. Locked tunes mean you can't read/write the PCM and the only way to unlock is to have a dealership work some magic on the PCM.
Since a cable comes with 8 credits look at that as 400 bux just in credits. That is the real reason not to buy used. There are also issues with being a registered customer and being able to get updates and application keys. It's going to be a hassle unless the person you are buying from is going to give you their user/password, application key ect. I wouldn't pay more than 100 bux for a cable plus 25 bux for each credit unused. If it's a pro model that raise the price another 100 bux in my mind.

I'd ****** that deal up if it comes with 6 credits. Very good price.
Just have to put the software on your computer and then download your current tune off the car (takes like 30 minutes, so make sure you have plenty of battery life... if the battery dies during the middle of a flash... you just bricked your car. Have to take it to the dealership to have them un-brick it.). Once you download your tune, save it as something like "BASE TUNE"... and then edit the file's properties so that it is a READ ONLY file. That way you don't screw up and save over it. This gives you a guaranteed to work tune file. Personally, anytime I make changes to a tune... I save it as a new file... that way if/when it doesn't work, I can easily revert back to the previous tune.
Know what I mean?

The differences is in the MVPI only
The pro have a intefrace for 0-5v inputs and is capable of stand alone datalogging software
From HP Tuners MPVI Std and MPVI Pro (Enhanced IO) Interface Differences - HP Tuners Bulletin Board
What does the MPVI Pro interface allow me to do over the Standard Version?
With our Pro interface, you can integrate 0-5v signals from various sensors such as EGT, Wide Band, fuel pressure and others right into our scanner. You will have real time data from those sensors right next to your standard scan tool data such as TPS, RPM, MPH, etc.
Our MPVI Pro interface also has black box data datalogging for select vehicles of up to 1hr 30mins built in. What this means is you are able to scan your vehicle without the use of a laptop using the interfaces record button. You can then take the interface into your home to transfer the log contents from the interface to the computer. If you have an MPVI Pro it will require no hardware modification. Also note that VCM Scanner comes with both interfaces regardless as it is part of our VCM Suite package.
If the car has a combo tune or TF tune period, you can not read it with HPT tho. If it's HPT only, you can DL the tune and then tinker with it. I advice you save the tune in case you need to go back to it
