Post I need advice!!!

I currently have a gms1 cobalt ss tc. I have a muffler delete, which is amazing. I love setting off car alarms in my parking garage at work.

However...I was looking at downpipes....catless....

My questions

1) How bad will the exhaust smell, is it really noticable?

2) How much louder will my car be? Will it be too insanely loud? Because it's pretty loud now.

1) ahha well if its anything like my STI, which I assume it'd be... its noticeable... Don't stand behind your car while its running

2) car wont be much louder, but there will be a tone change

Catless will smell, even my high flow cat smells when I get on it. However, when driving normally it doesn't really smell at all. I did the test with my girlfriend following me around in her car and she didn't notice any smell, except if I got in boost. For the sound I can't tell, since I still got my stock muffler and it's loud enough for me.

hey now! be nice, i'm 19 haha.

jk scott.
but to be honest to the op i did what you're wanting to do in reverse.
i first got the zzp catless down pipe and loved the sound.
then about 3 weeks ago i got my muffler cutoff and just welded the tip back on with straight pipe.
its not so much that the sound is gonna change, but its about the performance you gain.
2 cats on a dp = very restrictive.
none =

it is a little smelly, but its not that bad. i love my catless downpipe and the sound is pretty badass.
oh and with the dp on first it didn't really get that loud, its when i cut off my muffler...so you've already hit the brunt of the loudness anyhow.

IMO, catless is the way a car SHOULD smell. It's not too bad, depending on the downpipe i guess, Clear Image is where i got mine from and on startup you can smell it in the car a little, but not bad at all, outside of the car it smells, but its not going to make anyone turn up their nose, at least i wouldnt think so, as for the noise, going catless didnt make it a ton louder just driving normal (but the exhaust not is way better) but under WOT it is way louder than stock (and it sounds AWESOME) and it backfires a lot more than stock with a catless dp, but...best power for the money, by FAR.

Gas smell, not the rotting garbage smell of old cars.

The smell...not bad...noticable if your geting something out of your trunk while the car is running...but other than that not bad

The sound on the other hand...It's loud. Not so bad while cruising...but a cold start and any sort of "more than average" throttle input..and it is loud. I honestly regret getting the muffler delete...but I got it before I went catless..oh well. Before I went catless My car sounded awesome with just the muffler delete...after the catless...sometimes I feel like "that guy"....especially starting my car in a parking lot if it has sat long enough to get cold again. I'm now looking into the MPx catback or the Hahn...cuz they are the quietest I've seen so far.

At least it's not rotten egg smell

Is the difference is smell as big as the difference in loudness I got when I went muffler delete or is it a less proportionate?

That sounded kinda geeky, I don't know how to describe it. Here in Ontario we have emissions checks, and i'll have to go back to normal for my test. I just don't want the MTO to fine me for having a car that is unroadworthy.

Word of advice... go with a catted DP. I have catless and i "F"ing hate it to stupid loud. So i put my stock back on but i got the rear cat on my stock DP removed so there is only one cat. Im going to buy a catted DP. Also take into note that my DP back exhaust is 3" straight pipe no mufflers or res. I got my exhaust from Mandrel Exhaust Systems.

shoot its no wonder its so loud then. straight pipes. probably sounds pretty good with a cat though. If you want to go catless i would say leave the rest of the exhaust stock (muffler, resonator..etc) I just popped my catless dp into my stock exhaust and its loud under WOT, but in normal or even spirited driving without my foot to the floor it isnt overly loud.
