i think i'm over-boosting

alright..i was out having some fun in my ss/tc with my friend..he had a g-force so i was trying to get an estimate on what my quarter mile time and 60ft was..so the first couple times i ran it, it held up fine..besides the fact that when i was flat shifting i couldnt get it into 3rd..anyway i go on my 3rd or 4th run and in 3rd gear at about 5k rpm my exhaust started making this crazy ass noise and the car started breaking up..it did it a couple more times..then it ran good but in fourth when i got at about 5500 rpm it started to break up a little bit and didnt want to accelerate..it was kinda throbbing..the mods i have on the car are..hahns 3"in cat-back,synapse downpipe, and i took my stock air filter out and was running filter less..me and my buddy think sense i now have a high flow downpipe, with the filter being out, the turbos getting too much air causing the break up..or its over boosting..any help??

running with no filter? are you insane? unless the conditions are more than perfect you may have sucked something up into your Throttlebody into the motor and fucked your car...

not sure what you did, but that doesn't sound like over boosting to me unless what you was feeling was detonation but in my experience with turbo cars, u'd know if it was detonation...

wat he said you should always have a filter in and instead of running no filter get a k&n drop in plus also motor's walk a fine line between working right and bust up especially F/I cars

Some of your guys are not quite correct. Your turbo will blow before your engine does without a filter. It is pretty dumb not to run a filter though. I would guess the computer can sense a A/F ratio change and it won't run right without the filter.

Pros run filterless for more power and air flow but they are also tuned for it. Dirt, and things can into the turbo wheels and create problems for street cars. The pros also tear down, and rebuild turbos often.

Trust the other guys about the filter. Do you have a tune? If not it could be the computer wigging out trying to reduce the power below the 260hp(crank) limit

to add to that one, i'd think about resetting the electronics by disconnecting the battery and leaving the negative post off for 30 seconds, during this time goto the drivers seat and turn the car into the on position and put the brake as far down as u can, this drains all the residual energy in the system and everything will think the car just came off the factory floor again.............and don't EVER drive without a filter again ya?

dudes..the car runs fine..it only did it in one gear around 5k rpm..i put the filter back in and it didnt break up..what it probably is, is sense i have a big exhaust and a high flow cat, with the filter-less intake the stock turbo probably cant handle the air and the computers cutting the power on the car sensing somethings wrong..i may be stupid for not running it with a filter but i'm smart enough to know i didnt **** my car up..oh and about this 260 power cut out bullshit..its a false statement..i'm pushing way more then 260 to the crank and it pulls every bit..except for when it messed up the other night..maybe for the 08 guys it cuts out, but for my 09..i got way more then 260(crank)..the g force also said i ran a 14.6 at 102mph..cant be right considering i ran a 14.6 at 97mph in my ss/sc..and i just watched a video with a dude claiming his stock ss/tc ran a 13.6 at 104mph..so somethings not right there either

it is not a bull **** statement, have you dynod the car? The computer limits or increases the boost to maintain the predetermined power. I have an 09 aswell.

Have you dynoed your car to know it has more than that, and 2009's cut power at 260 as well I have one, also you should at least be running a 14.0 if your a good driver. As for the one that ran 13.6 he is one of the ones thats can drive pretty well, hahn did like 13.8 stock so it can be done. Oh as for knowing if you messed up your car or not what happens when you dont have your filter in and a car passes the other way and blows dust up and your car sucks it in.

i ran 14.4 at 100.5 MPH stock ss/tc

so how does synapse claim that their downpipe adds 15whp if the car only handles 260 to the crank?

ya dood lol did it all the time on my last car cause the ECU kept leaning things out for "better mpg" so about every 2 weeks i'd reset it and there would be better MPG and more power right off the bat.
