i think my zfr is done

A decent amount of air comes out through the oil cap on mine.
If you have smoke coming out from there then that would be an issue.
After fixing my return line my smoking issue stopped but I have extremely wacky fuel trims. Swings from -29 to +29

Well it smoke tester the intake side of the head , no leaky valve seals. Also tester the the exhaust side and no leaks either. So either turbo or block. Next I remove the turbo to test and put on old one and see if it still does it. If so. Engine is coming out. Buying ldk and I'll figure out what to do with this one

No I didn't yet, I have yet to see if I need one. And I'm not sure what I'm gonna do just yet. I got them to price out a engine with the built bottom and top end it came to little over 5k. May just get them to do bottom end and I'll do the top or just an ldk. Which is cheapest route. I still want to know why mine is burning oil so weirdly, and i refuse to give up till I know so we can all learn from it

So I pulled turbo. Has a tiny bit of shaft play, on turbine side when u wiggle the micron it moved it does contact the exhaust housing but there are no marks to show that it has ever hit the housing. So idk. Smoke tested center section and I do get. Little smoke
Out by the turbine. But I also tested my old k04 and it does the same thing. Guess when it's cold the oil seal lets some smoke by, since it works like a piston ring. The manifold looks super clean except for some black stains that I'm assuming may be oil. Also in the turbo looks like there is a trail of oil stain where it bolts up to manifold and also where it exits turbine toward o2 housing. So I really have no
Idea at this point. At this point I'm thinking of just getting new motor with 71 bolted to it. Gonna pull the head and look at Pistons next. Don't understand how taking oil cap off would cause turbo to leak oil into exhaust if it's bad.

40,000 miles on mine and not one issue, just sayin'.
Tom, i'm willing to bet you may have a block issue. I'm at 140,000 miles now and I've been lucky so far to just go through the stock 3.82. My car will be paid off in a few months, then looking for a daily to park the balt in my shop to do some fun things with ZZP, and sell the 6758 kit. Maybe S257 or 6262 with a gen 3 girdled block, the only weak link is the 4.05 then. I got the hookup at wiseco too. I don't think I'll ever sell this car, this is the first car out of many over the years that I've actually wanted to keep after its paid off. A sky or solstice would be nice too in the future.

figured it I'm gonna put that much power into it, may as well do it right and avoid having to fix broken engines all the time lol.
I may just put a stock ldk and zfr on though, guess it depends on how the dollar is when I buy and how much I care haha right now I'm reorganizing my shop to make more room for stuff, when I'm done ill start buying parts.

I think it all depends on how long you will keep it. If you plan on getting rid of it in the next couple years, I wouldn't spend tons on it because you won't get it back. If you plan on keeping it forever then spend the money for the long haul. The stock rods and Pistons in the ldk are no more durable than the Lnf so be careful with the bigger zfr. I would spend the lesser money rebuilding your zfr verses a new one, and use the money you didn't spend on the new turbo on rods and Pistons for the ldk. Should be good after that.

I'm seriously gonna look at it when the cobalt is done for. Go ahead and build the motor and trans for your car and at some point they can live on in the goblin.
