Installed the K&N SRI

Quick question, I just installed my K&N SRI a couple of days ago and I have been noticing when I let go of the gas to shift it makes (when I'm not in boost) the normal pshhhhh sound but with a clank simultaneously. I checked all the bolts to make sure they are tight. I can't figure out what it is, Any suggestions? Also, does anyone else get a super loud sucking sound when not in boost? Somewhere around 10vac up to 0? Any help would be great.

Thanks!

- If you have the hood open you should be able to hear it sucking air pretty easy (especially on cold starts)

- Check motor mounts? Maybe the engine is moving a lot under load.

- I assume this a metal on metal type clank?

I'm talking about when I'm driving its like an obnoxiously loud sucking sound. It's not like banging two pieces of metal together but more like if the intake was lifted up when there was a load and dropped back down. It maybe more of a clunk... Idk, I'm really bad with diagnosing sounds with the whole clunk, clank, rattle shake thing. Lol

The sucking sound should be normal. I mean the K&N makes the turbo rediculously loud IMO. As for the clunking, did you install that seal around the metal box properly? I'm thinking if its not there then your intake pipe might be banging on your "filter box" or whatever its called.

I'll post a video of it today.
As for the rubber seal, its on there but I don't think the intake even touches it. Unless I put the seal on they wrong side... I got it on the side facing the engine.

I just installed my hahn intake last night it is a lot louder so the sucking sound is def normal but for the clunking sound I would have to assume you might be hitting an ac line or motor mount ? If its anything like the hahn there's a rubber piece that goes in the hole threw the frame for the intake

It's normal don't worry bout it, mine does it as well, just getting ride of the air that was sucked into the intake system. Ur motor is going into vacuum when u let off and the vacuum is what opens the bpv

IMO if you don't have a leak the sucking sound is much louder and probably ok. Check to make sure the filter is on and tight and the silicone is on and tight as well, if it is you are good to go.

The clunk/clank/jangle/bell/thingy you are trying to diagnose will either need a video or some better detective skills. Have a buddy rev the car slightly in the driveway, see if it does it there. If not try some driving. See if it does the same just by lifting off the throttle and not pushing in the clutch vs pushing in clutch. See if there is anything with the drivetrain causing the noise.

Check for rubbing on the hood. If you have the filter rotated in some directions and it mounted too high it can rub. Although mine rubbed for a bit and i still did not hear anything.

I was just wondering if anyone else's "sucking" noise was as loud, I guess I'm not used to it yet. As for the clunk, it's right when I let go of the gas to push in the clutch. I've noticed it really happen when I'm around 5vac. It doesn't do it when i get into boost though. I will upload a video of it as soon as I get home.

Thanks to all that have responded!

Step one is to take some pics of the intake installed. Maybe we could see something out of place and that could be your problem.

Do as suggested in here already, take a video and upload it that clearly shows the sound.

I would imagine its coming from something either too close to the motor mount or not tightened properly.
Check the actual aluminium heat sheald and make sure it is tightend down i could see that making allot of noise if it werent tight.
You almost need to park with the ebrake on and start letting the clutch out with someone looking under the hood to create that load and movement without moving.

Check the bottom of the intake pipe to make sure it isn't hitting your A/C system test port cap/fitting or the screw that comes up through where the K&N shroud connects by the strut hump. Mine almost got a hole literally drilled through it by the screw before I caught it.

I just checked and I have the exact same thing! How did you fix it or get it to stop banging through? I'm thinking of cutting the screw down...
