intercooler comparisons?

I've seen downpipe threads, intake threads...
I cannot recall ever coming across an aftermarket intercooler comparison thread;

It seems like there are alot of options out there, but has anyone compiled any information that could be used to compare 'brand x' with 'brand y' in terms of fitment, efficiency and ground clearance?

I have read companies cite gains to be had with their stuff, but then I've read here that our stock intercooler is actually a great part, and it's only shortcoming is the end tanks...

Can anyone help clear this up?

Thanks for humouring my thread

i thought it was a zzp ic that had developed leaks?

that being said, everything is eventually going to fail;
I'm just surprised that an efficiency comparison ect hasn't been done.

i thought that you only realized you had a leak after you started logging?

if you had something that showed a difference in the two i would be interested..

Most ic comparisons are by fitamet and reliability. ZZP is the best all around.

hmm, although it does read as though they do have a great part, I have read of people having frustrations with their bracketry, and bolting it up just right.

If all of these IC's come down to fitment and core size, then I knew which one I would eventually get before I created this thread...

Just figured that they didn't all have the same efficiency;
eg:
1) at 21psi 'brand a' showed no variance of pressure between hot side and cold side piping measurements, while at 21psi 'brand b' showed 3psi lower pressure on the cold side (intercooler had a measurable pressure resistance)
2) at running temps, and 21psi, 'brand c' showed a 17 degree temperature drop from hot side to cold side piping; while 'brand d' under the ame conditions showed a 10 degree temperature drop .

I've had the ZZP inter cooler before and couldn't have been more happier. If you push the stock inter cooler to higher temps the Iat2 would rise slightly, as for the ZZP it would stay ambient no matter what. Only draw back though was the weight, about 30lbs as compared to the stock 8lbs. Also, the ZZP was a very high quality piece I may add, welds were almost perfect and the end tanks were cast aluminum (probably added the weight) but worth it imo.

Very happy with ZZP's. Install was cake. No cutting or bumper support removal.

i got the zzp increased clearance, fitment was great, your not really going to feel a power different day to day driving tho.

if people cant figure the brackets out they're retarded

I have an MPX intercooler, and it could fit better and the mount isn't the greatest (1 bolt instead of 2) I'm fairly low so it's always on my mind if it will be taking a hit or not. Lastly, the inlet and outlet pipes are tapered so I had to tighten and move my T-bolt clamps a few times before getting no leaks.
