K&N air filter?

Does the K&N drop in air filter for the 2009 Cobalt SS/TC make any diff in performance at all?

Also, where can you buy them?

I noticed a tiny improvement in throttle response and the turbo was slightly louder.. Hardly noticeable though. I went back to the stock filter because there wasn't enough difference compared to how much dirt gets in.. I feel a lot safer with what the car was made for, specially when I get stage 1. That K&N really worried me because you could see right through it. I held it up to a light bulb and was like.. #@%# this thing.. With the turbo and direct injection I don't want that extra dirt in.. My K&N was black after only 1000 miles but only on one half. Do the air box mod and leave the stock filter.. I noticed a difference even with the stock filter and everything else stock.

you will pick up power, not much but a little. you should gain about 2 to 3 hp and1 to 2 lb of tq. you will also pick up some gas mileage also. i would say about 1 to 1 1/2 mpg.

I watched closely and didn't notice any mileage change.. With the turbo and DI I don't think a filter alone is going to affect the mpg on these cars much..

It could be my car setting in though... May not be the best testbed. I still have under 2000mi.. Half was on K&N and second half was stock.. I haven't even seen an mpg change with the airbox mod that I did about 400miles ago. I reset my mpg meter often and kept a pretty close eye on it.

The sound difference is worth the price IMHO. You can hear the bypass alot better.

not trying to start the k&n argument back up with it flowing better but passing more dirt but i put a kn in right after i bought it new and have 5000 miles on it and was getting worried about all this stuff about it letting all this dirt in so i was gonna go back to the ac delco till i took apart my intake and looked at the filter which was uber clean the whole air box uber clean not a spec of dirt looked like the car was never driven then took a swab in the accordian hose with a white paper towel and came out white as it was when it went in so then after eating a coulpe slices of pizza off that paper towel i decided to keep the kn. i only drive on paved roads tho never gravel or dirt and its not dusty around here like in some states so maybe thats why oh well jus thought id share that

Want better fuel mileage?? Lower your speed by 3-5 mph and use the cruise at every opportunity. Even in town. Get on the interststate and check it out. My mileage went up at least 3 mpg when I drive at 65 instead of the limit, 70, in FL. Set the cruise and never touch the throttle. Tap the speed up and down with the cruise. I can cruise at 33-34 mpg all day long. Don't have to worry as much about passing and I don't have to worry about cops and my insurance sky rocketing. The track is where you can speed without worrying. Unless you're worried about being slower than the other guy and being embarrased. Hehe!! We all grow too soon old and too late smart.

I think that with a tune the filter will be more beneficial , I have one and am going to do the GM stage, and see if it makes a difference.

I agree that gas mileage doesn't matter.. I didn't try the K&N to get better mpg.. My main beef with the K&N is the dirt. My ss/sc started dying at 50k miles and I now blame the K&N (I know how to properly oil a filter). The throttle body was dirty and my oil was always dirtier than I have ever seen. My mass air sensor went out ect. ect... after getting the ss/tc I decided to go K&N drop in.. then I started reading bad articles on them. I held it up to a light bulb and there are so many holes in it.. no way in hell..

These cars can make 300hp while still having the stock filter.. so why mess with it? That is my thinking.. Unless you are going crazy and its not your daily driver.. Keep in mind also that the stage kit was tuned with the stock filter in mind.. and the new intake that they are supposedly developing.

What do you mean by "Airbox Mod"?

Question regarding Air Filter change. I've got a 2007 SS/SC (Sport Tint Red by the way). I went ahead and bought a K&N Air filter to replace the OEM filter. My question is: How do you swap out the Air Filter? Do you have to remove the Head light or fender wall to get at the Air Box? I don't have the factory repair manual. Help out please. Thanks.
