What I can do is take some pics when I have Joe's turbo off.

Here is a pic of the wheel that goes into there.

It will be in New Era's catalog very soon.

Also, do you know yet if the solstice/sky turbo is identical to cobalt's on the outside.

I am also looking for a stock turbo to do this mod but every where I turn they $300 so I am going to keep looking. Anyone know of a place to get a stock one fore cheap?

Im not yet sure on the difference between the two.

Be careful on the turbo. You get what you pay for. Everyone Ive taken apart has had some variety of damage requiring a rebuild.

Infrequent oil changes, abuse, etc all will score up the shaft on a turbo as stressed as the stock one is.

I just don't want to modify my stock turbo in case something happens to the car and it has to be taken back to the dealer for a blown engine. I will be getting a "stock" computer to tune aswell so the stock one can be left unmodified.

Who's advertising? We are trying to get some info.

I would hate to scare more good people away with good information.

Sigh.

This has been getting reported, we have to weigh the good information posted against the site support registered vendors provide.

I vote, that reported toolbags(like the guy on the first page) get dealt with first, then worry about "possibly" outside vending..Haven't seen anything done about that yet.

Mike isnt a supporting vendor? He's in your vendor index? I know he'll be pretty mad if he's paying for nothing.

I work with and for New Era so when you go looking for these parts, that's the number you call.
Maybe the Mod's should add my name to his Vendor roster.

Well I have Joe's car here, and it looks as though the turbo and manifold are the same. I will try to fit the wheel upgrade turbo onto his car in the next week or so, then dyno it @ NewErA to see what it will put down.

you also have to remember people with just a tune are almost breaking 300 whp and the car is running out of air.. people have gotten easily 300+ wtrq with a turbo upgrade... these things will be monsters

i believe it might need full bolt ons and a turbo upgrade to crack the 400 whp ... but it's a matter of 3-4k ...

what about porting an clipping?

You wont get 400whp with this turbo. The turbine/compressor just wont support it. You will prolly see high 360's or 370's @ the wheel with the 40lbs/min this turbo can provide.

400whp will require the Gt3076R running about 25psi.

For 350-375whp what PSI whould be needed out of this upgraded OEM turbo?

It will provide max flow around 24-25psi.

You basically will want to run it around the same boost pressure that you do now, you just get to shift at 7400rpm instead of 6300.
Making power for another 1000rpm with the mathmatical benfits to HP, along with the ability to get to 60mph with less shifting.
Im nto sure abotu your ratio's but in our solstice Gxp mule we had to shift into 3rd to get 60mph stock. Now we get it 2/3 the way thru 2nd for a much reduced 0-60.

Our cars do 36mph in first and 69mph in second, 106 in thid and so on. We would be able to do 42mph in first, 80mph in second, and 125mph in third reving to 7400RPM. That would be killer!!!!

This sounds like it will be perfect! Did you fix the surge issue you were having with this new wheel?

Hope that fixes any issues anyone had about this being on here.

So I can defiantly include the sky and solstice in to my search? I kinda already figured, I just didn't want to purchase any of these before I knew for sure.

Here is a link to a video that BTF posted on the solstice board that show the surge.I could only get the video down load to work with Quick time.

BTF I left this same post over on the solstice board aswell because I thought after the fact that the guys here might want to check out the video as well and here some more info.

Now is this serge on stock boost levels? I thought from reading before that it was from 20psi and up, but the video makes me think different. Now if I run at say 20 pounds of boost will this end up destroying the turbo? In the future I will be upgrading with bigger exhaust but with the purchase of HPT and this turbo that will be all of my mods for this year. Do you think a ported stock turbo manifold will cure the surge issue and maybe hack off one of the 2 cats.

Stock requested airload tables levels, no.

The compressor surge is when running 19-20psi with an all stock motor, wheel upgrade and only between the rpm's of 3000-4000. No amount of tuning will make it go away, it in no way effects hp or the motor.
It's so slight that I 'm not sure if it will destroy the turbo, but Id rather you dont run it in surge at all. A performance exhaust, cat & intercooler will move the mass flow up enough to get you out of surge.

Tonight I put down 325wtrq and 295whp @ New Era with our solstice. All stock +borg wheel upgrade.

Mike's guys will have all the new and upcoming goodies up on his vendor page soon. I talked to him a bunch this afternoon about what we're going to get to market for your cars.

Was the car tuned for the upgraded wheel?

yup. 1st pull was 275/275. It had a slight hint of compressor surge in the 3-4k window. I didnt have time to drop the exhaust off as see if that would have cured it.

What were your base line numbers with just a tune? I know allot of people here are getting close to those numbers with just a tune in our FWD platform.

I know RWD has more loss but that still seems low.
