Lets Beat it with a Stick more...ZFR vs. WR-2
So i just started to gather parts for one of the 2 turbos in the title.
I cant find much info on the WR-2 and to be honest, I dont know which one to get... I would like a 400/400 Daily... Or enough to beat a Bolted tuned, 2013 5.0.... Whichever comes first!
I ordered 2, 3 bar maps from CED, i will be ordering the GMPP clutch this weekend.
If anyone Knows Old school i'd like him to tune me, since BYT cant be found. Or i could just buy HP tuners.
I was going to order the MPX cat back as well...
So anyway, Any help with this decision would be great since its alot of money for one of these great Bolt-on turbos...

haha very funny!
Both turbos are great and will net you 400/400 daily. I have the WR-3 (the only one with it) and I love the turbo. There are a lot of testimonials about the ZFR, it has been proven and it's a great turbo. The reason I decided to go with the WR-3 is because I was given a very good opportunity to help Dave and Matt at Pwerks by getting it. I do not regret the decision of going with it over the ZFR. On 93 with 23.5#'s and low timing I put down over 400WHP and 420TQ. I like the fact that the WR-3 spools a little slower then stock (my trans does too )

Yes there is one in the Official Dyno thread..it sucks tho because it was like the third pull that Dave did so the tune is different. In that graph it shows like 28#'s I think and like 412HP, but by the end of tuning we were at like 400hp with 24-25#'s. When I go back in the spring we are gonna dyno it with the tune that's on it to get correct numbers. Then we will be going e47 so we will see then what it can put down

Well technically you wouldn't be the tested with the WR-2. There are a few guys who are rocking it in the Kappa platform. But yes I think you would be the first within the Cobalt community. I say that you go with it! Nothing like being unique!

I will say this though, Pwerks has good stuff (at least in my case) it's quality. I don't worry about it failing on me with proper care. I think if you take the dive, you'll ultimately be happy with it.
Mine has ceramic coating on it and it could be gimmicky, but I feel great knowing that it may dissipate heat more so than my stock turbo does. It was worth the money to me.
I'm happy with my K04+ (WR1) and have no regrets.

He wouldn't be the first with the WR-2 nor WR-3. There are pleanty of Kappa guys running the WR-2. I am personally running the WR-3. I know it's hard for people to make the commitment to that amount of money that has no real backing. I can tell you tho, one trip to Pwerks and being in their shop and seeing what they do and the quality their products have and you would be sold. I 100% guarantee it! But like I said the ZFR has alot of backing and everyone likes it, you can't go wrong with either turbo. Get the WR-2 and get some numbers, show people what it is capable of.

The trans was one of my biggest reasons for going with the WR-3 over the ZFR. Everyone that talked about the ZFR they would talk about the quick spool. I really did not want that. I don't want 400HP that is spooling the same as stock. The spool on my WR-3 is a little slower then the ZFR but man does the WR-3 keep climbing. I love my powerband and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Kdub where does yours hit full spool??
I too have been thinking one of the wr series for next year. Ive already chatted with vahdyx on his thoughts and experiences with the wr1, and i think im wanting to shell out the extra $$ for the wr2 over the wr1. But my question is whats the main difference between the 2 and the 3?? Im looking for more info than what pwerks has on their site. Also some of the options in the drop down menu confuse me as well. Thanks

What Kappa guys? The only one I know of is Roadrunner(Yellow Sky) I'm sure that if anyone else would of gotten one they would have posted in the Solstice or Sky forums. There have been interest and discussions but that is it.

From my understand from Matt and Dave they have had a few go out to different owners. Couldn't tell you an exact number tho. And not all upgrades live on the forums haha. **** I was modding my 06 SS and had not stepped foot onto this forum.

true, but......and they would kill me if those guys read this......they are old people and well like to talk a lot (mostly BS) but there are a few that make good conversation. I'll post then a thread to reveal themselves and post what there thoughts are then.

I have often thought about posting on the sky/solstice forums to get the word out about the WR-3. I have posted a ton of information on this forum (graphs, videos,#'s) but prolly wouldn't be bad to get the info to them, especially the Wr-3

Hey man, my turbo is full spool by roughy 4k. I know that is a bit laggy but it's not too bad. I have a nice power curve and at 7k the power is still coming in. The main difference between the 2 and 3 are the size (obviously) with the wr-2 you have a 51mm comp wheel and a 56.5mm exhaust turbine. With the 3 you have a 55mm compressor wheel. You also have the option of the 4" inlet and 2.5"outlet. They give you the option of getting it with the forge bypass valve. and you can also have your compressor cover powdercoated
