Question Lifetime powertrain warranty

ok so like the title says i i just got my 2010 SS 3 weeks ago and they gave me a lifetime engine/powertrain warranty as long as i dont do any mods and i have them do all my work and maintenance. now the biggest problem of this is well i obviously want to upgrade the hell out of the engine but the drive to the dealer is 1.5 hours away. so my question is should i just do my own work and upgrade it after normal warranty were to run out or should i leave it alone and let them do the work. would it be worth it to go to the dealer?

honestly that sounds like a rip-off. You'll pay so much extra for the stealership doing the work, and you will probably never need "their" warranty. Never fall for their ****. Car already comes with a 5yr/100K warranty, how much more do you need?

That sounds like a load of bull to me. They can't specify that they have to do all maintenince/work on your car. As long as you do it properly and document your work they can not void your warrenty. That's a scam to get you to take your car to them every time you need an oil change, air filter, etc. They can't voild your warrenty if you perform maintenance on your car correctly, period. As far as mods, that will void your warrenty. Want to keep your warrenty? Only do gms1 and bolt ons or get hpt and flash back to stock for dealer visits. They try and tell you changing your own oil etc... voids your warrenty, they are full of crap.

Dont do it. My dad works for a GM dealer and said he would never do an extended warranty. Just stick with the factory warranty. Extended warranties are just a waste of money, and as for them saying you have to have maintinence there, they can. The dealer my dad works at has a tires program that if you have all your maintinence done there you get tires for the life of the vehicle. Anything after the factory warranty they can make up any stipulations they want.

Yea definately not. I still get all my work done at my dealer cuz my dad works there so it doesnt cost me as much. But if i was you just go with the factory and after that do what you want.

Its not the factory warranty that they are telling him they have to come there for. It is the extended warranty that he has to have his service done there. That dealer has a specific extended warranty and that is part of the agreement.

I just bought my 2009 with 8K mi. It was CERTIFIED USED! That means the warranty is extended 12mo/12kmi BUMPER TO BUMPER and NO deductable!

Yours has an aftermarket tune, though, so they'll say they didn't sell it to you with it, then void your warranty when you take it in for something.

Do they really check for tunes every time you bring it in? I really doubt it. Don't forget, car looks stock and is as far as bolt ons go.
Also I thought the warranty and Certified go with the car no matter where it goes?
Car was Certified when bought up by Chevy dealer in AZ..then resold to Mercedes Dealer in Ca. If I'm wrong...let me know.

it all depends on how long your going to have the car, it just sounds like a waste to have that dealer do all the work and pay that much more when you might just get rid of the thing at 60K miles or something.

Most problems that would make you take a car in for warranty work are the kinds of problems that would make a tech drive the car. When they drive your car, they'll know it's not stock. You don't have the GMS1 sensors, so they'll know there's a tune on it. They'll check it with the TechII and they'll know for sure you have a tune. The dealer that sold it to you will not admit to selling it to you with a tune on it. That's when you'll get screwed. Also, if you put any kind of aftermarket part on it and take it in with said part on it, they'll definitely deny warranty coverage.

Lifetime drivetrain warranties are basically crap. They know that the average American keeps a car for 3 years. The lifetime drivetrain warranty only applies to the original owner. Ever wonder why that is? We all know no car company could stay in business if all their cars had lifetime drivetrain warranties. If you're one out of the 100 or so people who actually does not modify a car and keeps it in stock form the entire time, then this doesn't apply to you, but if you are one of those 100 people, you're not reading this because you wouldn't be on a car forum.

Not worried..... I'm not so sure they test drive the car to it's *potential*...mashing the throttle to see how quick it is. I don't accept your *scenario* on that point. They drive the car to *confirm* your specific problem and drive again when repairs are complete. They drive VERY conservatively (for a good reason). If they run diagnostics, they're not neccessarliy going to be doing an in depth analysis of alterations in the data. Not saying this isn't possible, just not probable. This of course this is for a car with NO apparent alterations ( MY CAR)
Can anyone here site a case where a tuned, NON ALTERED (bolt-ons returned to stock) car, has been busted on the warranty? I'd love to see that!

Just my opinion. We'll all see how it works out for you. I"m not rooting against you.
