Looking at 08 g85

Hey guys, I'm looking into buying a 08 cobalt ss with g85 package.

It has 65 thousand miles. It scares me that it is beat to heck, as it has some modifications

The seller says it has- K&N sri intake and upper charge pipe, eibach pro springs with a fresh alignment, ottp hardcore rear sway bar, zzp rotated trans mounts and upper poly engine mount. 3 in downpipe with cat and muffler delete.

Any thing I should look at extra close? avoid it? Also what is a fair market price for a fair-good condition 08 with g85 with 65k?

How much is he asking? Is it beat up? Go look at it and drive it. Check the oil, coolant, etc check for leaks underneath. AT 65K the intake valves will likely need to be cleaned which is not a huge deal but if you pay someone to do it it costs a couple hundred dollars or so. Around $10K is fair for a good condition 08 with 65K miles.

He is asking 10K. So when cleaning the intake valves do you have to take the head apart internally?

Nope just take the intake manifold off, can clean em from there. Check turbo for shaft play as well. Don't want to by a car with a bad turbo. Check if he has info on how often oil was changed. Probably want to change spark plugs with new stockers if u buy. And throw a code reader on there and see if there are any codes that he may have cleared or pending codes. Heard some interesting ways people hide those.

Go look at it and drive it. Ask if it is tuned. Ask for any service records he has and visually check all the fluids. Make sure the idle, both cold and hot idle, is smooth and the car pulls smooth at wide open throttle (no hiccups). Cycle the key on and off 3-4 times, start it drive it some then shut it off then start it again, repeat 2 more times) when you test drive it to see if any DTCs pop up.

Went to look at it. It had a ticking noise when I started it; then I heard a chirping noise witch i'm assuming was the fuel pump.
Had taken it for a test drive, Never really got into full boost. I would say 10-15 pounds.[Didn't want to beat on it as its not my car] Got back the guy seemed pretty firm on his price. I surely didn't want to insult him with what I was willing to pay I just did not feel comfortable paying the full 10k.
I am for sure going to look for another one. If only more people in MN had them for sale..

Now, is the LSD that Chevy put in the g85 a Quaffie?

The ticking is most likely the high pressure fuel pump which is normal on these engines.

My SS put down 330 WHP on E42.5. Intake, catless downpipe, 3 inch exhaust with a resonator and no muffler, ZZP Front mount, injen hotpipe, Dyno tuned to 22 psi.

I have driven mine hard for 65K miles and it still runs great. I would have bought it.
