looks like i found my loose timing chain problem

so i chainged my timeing chain tentioner today, and i took apart the old one, here is what i found, the new one when i took out the snap ring, ok easy, nothing jumped at me, the old one i took out snap ring and the macanism jumped out as if the tensioner had not fully released inside the motor so it wasnt putting full tension on the chain. so i put in new one, and slack is now gone, chain is fully tight. yay

its pretty straight forward and easy for the lnf to do this. the one part people will always find risky is making sure the chain doesnt skip a tooth, easy to prevent. make sure piston 1 is all the way at top, look at vavle springs make sure non are compressed, and ur good to remove tentioner, no zip tieing of anything required

well after taking apart an 09 2.2 ecotech, which is identical in that area, i looked at that timeing chain and it was tight, almost 0 play, mine when i turned the gear backwards a bit it had quite a bit of play, when i tryed again after i changed it, no play so im happy, now to see if that tick went away lol im just prettying up my bay now with stanless braided hoses for my catch can, and stainless sleves for other hoses in there. should look sweet

it cant fall into the motor.

edit....if youre taking off the cams to replace lash adjusters, take off the front cover, then theres no guessing if you skipped a tooth, not worth it to risk it especially on your first time.

Or you could just change the lash adjusters without removing or even touching the cams. I've changed hundreds of lash adjusters and rockers without removing cams. Takes me about 30 minutes to change a set of 16 adjusters on an Ecotec. Let me explain how it's done...

Oh wait, this is the forum where everyone hates me. Oh well, I guess I won't explain.
Nevermind.

Well gmtech I can see and have heard that youve got a bad rep around here for being a dick, and this kinda proves it....why even mention a procedure like that if youre not willing to share with him the tool you use or the procedure you use to modify an off the shelf tool to allow you replace adjusters with the cams in place?

Im aware it can be done as well, and have done a few that way myself, though I usually use it as a way to prove worn valve guides without head removal. I dont know where you work that you would have need to have done this hundreds of times as I can count the number of lash adjusters Ive had to replace in 12 year on one hand probably.......SO are you trying to be helpful but need your ego stroked first by having someone specifically ask you for help or are you just out to continue to foster your ******** persona?

im doing it on a diff motor, and im good, im very good at knowing how to do things once iv done them once, i most likely wont attempt it on my actual motor till iv done it a bunch on my practice motor, and i cant learn if i have someone show me, i have to do it myself, thats how i learn, ya its costly sometimes, but all i need is to do it once and ill be able to do it with my eyes closed. good memory probably will never do it anyway, thats what warrenty is for, i just like a little insight before i attempt on my other motor

no need for the commentary every time john posts. i understand what your getting at but thats like your commentary twords me in powells twisting beam thread and then you come asking me for help. i brushed it off and got you the quotes like requested. if i such a "jelous" baby i would of told you to **** off rather then being a "grown man" and assisting you when you needed it and trying to get your situation figured out so you can get back on the road. so leave it be unless your personally attacked imho

I still think you were being jealous bc someone whom you didn't think deserved to have that twisting beam got it. Maybe jealousy wasn't the right word but by the tone of your responses in that thread, you definitely had a problem with it. I left it alone when you posted that you realized your comments were not necessary.

You quoting me to give you business isnt doing ME any favors. If it were free, okay but it def wasn't. I am a grown man which is why I messaged you in the first place. You and I have no reason to argue. I have no beef with you Matt.

I'll comment as I see fit thank you very much. It was Maven's post any way. I was just agreeing with it.

To keep the post on topic, I'd like to hear this ticking OP is complaining about. Can you get it on video, OP?
