lsd?
lsd?
Hi guys well im close to being a new ss turbo owner but have a dilemma... lsd or no lsd? i of course want one but these are are becoming so hard to find a nice one with a lsd. so my main question is, does having one over not having one make a big difference? as far as from a dig, or in corners? does it help at all with wheel spin? thanks guys!
We carry the Quaife brand, which is the same as OEM spec on www.TurboTechRacing.com
i do plan on modding the car. so then i guess better to go with a car already with one? and its only a 495 option, but dont worry Aaron i see quite a bit of things i like from your sight! im just wondering what everyones .02 is

You have that flipped, the 2010s only came with it if ordered.
ya they are really hard to find i kid you not! ok then ill look harder to find one with a lsd in thanks for all of the feedback guys and when the car is in my possession ill post pics as a new ss turbocharged owner. lol im moving on from a supercharged 2.2 :P and like i stated above to definitely do plan to mod it. and everyone is saying go for it and for 495, thats not bad at all! alright thanks guys for the quick feedback!
Get lsd if ya have the chance... My sedan doesnt have it and i have no problems getting it going quick with gms1.. Cornering is probably a different story but i dont do autocross or drive it in the snow so o dont notice.. Goodluck
you know i felt dumb because i didnt get LSD on my cobalt but i tell ya what. i raced an HHR with the exact same mods and everything as me. Him on R compound tires and me on star specs. he had LSD and I do not and my car would launch a lot easier than his. I guess you can say driver mod is needed but i must say for my car not having LSD my car still launches like a biotch.
Ya still looking around for one with a LSD already in it. So far all I have found is the sport red tintcoat one. And Slowbalt the reason you probably launch so much better is because your probably just in beast mode when it comes to a dig haha. Or he just needs a driver mod haha
it doesnt make a difference as long as both wheels have equal traction. It's more needed for autox and **** like that where both front will have different weight on them all the time. Just for drag racing on a prepped track you probably wont notice a difference. Mine doesnt have lsd and it spins both tires on pavement. I did notice it however when I had to drive in some mud once.

People on this site still think LSD helps straight line (drag racing) performance. It does not.
It does usually make a big difference, but with this car it doesn't. I've launched hard and lit the tires up a few times and there's always 2 black marks. Unless my car has lsd but doesn't have the code, I don't see the benefit of it for drag racing.

Haha, I should make myself more clear .... It doesnt help straight line performance on our cars

well i wouldnt buy a performance car with out one, specially when we are talking fwd! ms3's all had them stock even the base ones. To have a $400 option as important as lsd? christ just make them all have it. It also could be used as a bargaining tool to keep the resale up.

Yes..it's in turns and comming out of them where LSD makes a big difference. The outer wheel lifts a bit and loses traction. The LSD transfers the power to the INNER wheel (with the weight tranfer) and pulls you around much quicker. NO effect in a straight line. Any enthusiast (read: turns) would want one. If all you care about is drag racing..then you can do without.
Dont have it. Dont drive in snow or mud. Dont autoX. Ive driven in deep dry sand at the beach and didnt have an issue. Ive driven one with it and did not feel a difference in a straight line as has been mentioned earlier. I dont miss it. Now that the balt is on pedders the front is more planted and Id miss an LSD even less.
Is it nice to have? Sure. Is it a necessity? Not really, but it depends on you and the plans for your car.
