good for you!!

were I you - I'd make a quiet observation as to if your pistons exhibit any of the same signs as Stamina's pistons;

I'd be inclined to think this would be the bigger concern than introducing a little extra oxygen (via methanol; CH3OH; which when burnt does this change; 2 CH3OH + 3 O2 → 2 CO2 + 4 H2O) to your combustion process...

methonal, or even the more hillbilly version (water injection) has been done for years...

MMWA is USA he is in the land of mounties and maple syrup. and it does not cover something like that. tunes will void it mmwa or not. and i think it says expressly in the owners manual that aftermarket parts will void your warranty. that little blurb gives them freedom to deny a claim. if its not written in there is your only hope. have you ever actually read the act or just spouting the usual bs when people try to get over on dealers?

The MM Act is crap. I have never heard of it helping anyone. It was mainly written so that you could use oil/air filters and such consumables that aren't necessarily dealer parts, and still keep your warranty intact.

Well I saw the damage, there is no way meth caused that. One of the lobes of one cam was half worn away, left the sides of the lobe but in the middle was wearing, the metal caused scratches in cylinder 4 that were decently deep, the oil pump gears were scratched, and I also noticed scratches on my tensioner when I changed it. So lack of lubrication caused the issues, my bet, royal purple oil I use that one time, all this started few weeks after I changed to it.

Damn, Badani GM quoted me 16 hours for an LE5 R&R @ $108/hr, you can do better than 8.5k!

Get the shop manuals and learn something, get some cobalt buddies (lots in the peg) and do it yourself.

FYI, a dismantler in Winnipeg is sitting on an '09 SS/TC which was invlved in an accident in the winter of 2009/2010 - the kid was driving on his stock Conti's, and his rear drivers wheel hit a curb hard enough to bend the rear axle - autopac wrote it off - iirc it had something like 30k km's...
I've stopped there for the past two summers and bought parts off of it - I can look for a receipt for their name and number if you want...

EDIT: 'Team Auto Parts' on Plessis

maybe you can use that as a negotiating tool

I can sympathize with you, I had to buy a new motor last year. The ceramic blew off one of my spark plugs and wrecked some valves and did some damage to the pistons. Warranty didn't cover it and it really hurt the wallet.

you got bent over it took me 3 hours in the drive way drinking beer with hand tools to tear my motor down. You need to say something and not except that price period.

I'm willing to bet that your problem wasn't what oil you were running... but how much oil you were running.

should learn how to put a motor together and dropped into the engine bay and you wouldnt be paying so much in labour. its just like legos man all it takes is a kick in the ass and a buddy to help and you could have a full swap in it in a weekend.

I run 4.7 liters of oil like the books says, so no, that's not it. I'm working on some deals, already getting some other stuff I need for free that's not involved it the issue, few hundred bucks worth, so if I'm gonna pay, I'll make sure I get everything I can from it. Plus the price is still unknown, it won't be 8500.

Royal Purple is garbage oil. It does what is says with the added horsepower and fuel economy but that because it runs like water when its hot. Once it gets hot it's no good. Run it in a b series honda and you will literally have no oil left after 1000km. I run 10-40 amsoil right now and my car loves it. I get no blow by any more which was causing my mil to come on because of oil on my map sensors. Amsopil is by far the best oil. If you want to save some money go with Penzoil platinum which is also a terrific oil.
