i started my car up at lunch break today and my SES light was lit. drove it to and from lunch and then after work had it scanned at Auto Zone. they said cylinder 2 was misfiring. i made arrangements to have my dealer check it out monday. at first the car seemed to be running fine, now im 2nd guessing if it is or not (probly in my head but i dunno). i am kinda surprised that i'd have a misfire at such a low mileage. anyone else have a problem? im running fresh gas, 93oct. just seems unlikely but i guess i'll find out at the dealer next week.
Just had mine in the dealer for a misfire. It got a LOT worse VERY VERY quickly!! Mine was the coil and I'm suspecting yours is the same. Probably just a bad coil on cyl. 2.

i have a very similar commute..all highway. i am now sure that the car is not running full potential. when i merged on the highway today it felt weak. well, the dealer cant fit me it until monday, so i'll just take it easy til then and hope nothing bad happens?

the question is how much do u beat on the car...because the more u beat on the car the quicker the coils and plugs are gonna go out...also gotta remember you have the turbo behind the block so the heat from the turbo can also melt the coils and cause a misfire on cyl 1 and 2...i used 2 have the same prob on my srt-4..the fact the turbo used 2 get hot it would melt the cyl 3 and 4 because of the position of the turbo and later only people were making heat shields 2 prevent it from happening..its not defect...its just the fact of u beating on ur car,which is causing to blow ur plugs out, also if u notice while ur in boost and ur backfiring alot and going nowhere.. that is the sign of coils and plugs

For anyone thinking of buying an SS/TC don't let things like this scare you away. I don't regret the purchase in any way whatsoever. When you push for performance, **** happens. I remember on Top Gear they had a Zonda F Roadster on there. I think it's nearly a $1,000,000 car. Not sure but it's up there. The engine went to crap when they tried to take it around the track. The engine is made by Mercedes Benz too. If you want performance, there's always that risk no matter who makes the car.
I had occasional missfires on my car when I first got it. Heres what I determined to be the issue and what fixed it. Because an LNF sprays the fuel directly into the combustion chamber and bypasses the intake valves the Intakes are really dry. Especially when the engine is under 5000 miles. The valve guide to stem tolerance is on the verge of being almost to tight (which is a good thing but makes the intakes fussy) Under hard accel the valves can hang open just a squeek for a couple cycles under a hard 1/2 shift and once the computer measures it it shuts down the fuel in the missing cylinder to protect the catalytic converter from damage. So the missfire while it maybe actually only happens 1 or 2 times the engine can miss all the way through 2nd because the fuel to that cylinder is shut off. Once the computer determines all is OK it turns the fuel back on and the cylinder begins to operate normally. If it happens twice in the same IGN cycle it will throw a code.
How I fixed mine: I pulled the vacuume hose off the intake that feeds the bypass solenoid. I attached another hose and stuck the hose into a cup of Lucas Oil Treatment and drew a few ounces into the intake so it could lube the valve stems as the engine was running. This cured my car and it has never missed again. Try it it might solve your issue. Even at that it can't to lube the intake stems a little to improve their total life.

I sometimes get misfire on cyl 4. No power loss or anything though. I read somewhere that spark plug gap is really sensitive on this car. I've been meaning to check the plugs, but haven't yet. I had the car in the dealer for a week looking into this problem and they couldn't find anything. of course it wouldn't misfire while they had it. lol. No complaints about the car though. I would still buy it again. Still love it.
I tried narrowing the plug gap on mine initially and it changed nothing. Mine would also miss on cylinder 2 so I swapped the cyl 1 and 2 coils to see if it followed the coil and it again missed on cyl 2

yea they do go bad occasionally but alot more of them get changed at the dealer because the dealer doesn't really know how to fix it or really know whats causing it in the first place. So if it comes in with a missfire code they just change the coil and ship it when there really isn't an issue with the coil in the first place.

Doesn't oil lube the intake valves? I mean oil is up in the valve cover area for the intake cam and everything.
The valve seals minimize the oil lube to the stems. Especially when their new. Thats why after you get 4 to 8000 miles on the engine the seals have started to relax a bit and the stems loosen up in the guides enough that the issue usually just disappears. The valves are lubed when the head is assembled at the factory but it does not hurt on a dry flow intake design like the LNF to give them a little extra shot of Lube while the guides and stems are settling in.

dealer called me and said it was bad plugs...dunno how that happened but i guess im glad its that simple. i pick it up tomm, so hopefully thats all it was. any ideas why the plugs would be bad already?
got the car back. all seems well. is running great. i still dont know how the plugs couldve been bad. i guess its cool its fixed tho. only bad thing was the dealer put over 50miles on it while it was down there
Bastards did the same thing to my car. I cussed them out about that. I told them that if they want to drive my car I have to ride with them. They dont drive it anymore.
this car sucks so bad!!!! i have had 6 performance cars and this is the only one that spends more time in the shop than getting driven by me. i can tell you just about anything you wanna know about enterprise rental cars i get to drive them one a month! i have had NLS problems since the minute i got the car. the cel flashes once a week. misfires and linkage cables gone bad a few too many times
I'm 90% certain which hose this is, is it possible for "Gettinausernamesucks" to post a pic as to which hose it is? Isn't Lucas oil treatment a bit too thick to get sucked up into the manifold? I was thinking something like Lucas upper cyl. lube and fuel treatment would be better?
