muffler swap...

has anyone swapped mufflers on the stock catback? i just installed my catless downpipe and now the car sounds like a honda... not what i was hoping for... I'm amazed at how raspy this turbo car is...

Has anyone tried a Flowmaster or a Dynomax Ultraflow Welded or Oval Magnaflow Mufflers?

Honestly one of the best sounding turbo cars i've heard for cheap was my friends Eclipse GSX that had a 2.5" downpipe and strait pipe back to a $35 N1-Style Ebay Muffler... the next best sounding was his MR-2 Turbo w/ Apex'i N1... my friends got an EVO with a GReddy Ti exhaust and i think it sounds a lot better than my current one as well... all of them were catless and strait thru...

I went complete straight pipe on mine. It sounds pretty damn beastly. Its really loud though. I love it. I think you should consider the Borla muffler as well. They sound completely sexy.

borlas have always had a rasp... and from what i've gathered, most people on here like to hear them straight piped... which honestly sounds like doodoo... I want a nice mellow sound... i dont mind the loudness but the rasp and cracks suck...

think about how an old truck with glass packs sounds compared to how a magnaflow exhaust on a vette sounds... both are loud... but the magnaflow sounds good... right now i'd consider mine to sound border line glasspack like...

Haha your talking to a guy who had a 400hp small block with glasspacks bolted to the header flanges then dumped in a 55 chevy. I love loud ass motors and stuff... course I almost deaf, but thats besides the point.

You are correct though about the vette my dad has an 01 vette with flowmaster 70s on it. Sounds sexy as hell. I have heard the borlas on vettes too and like you already assume by now I like them better because they are louder.

You have the STOCK MUFFLER ON..why do you think anything will be quieter than that? Ain't gonna happen. One thing you can do is get a good performance muffler that has an optional SILENCER attatchment. That's what I put on my catback. I know the Megan catback has a very good silencer (like mine) that comes with the system. You might be able to order just the MUFF and silencer?

Here..I found one from Megan. This 2.5" and will weld up to your rear pipe which is 2.5":
Silencer included:

Stainless Steel 4 Tip 2.5 Diam M-N1 Muffler : Megan Racing - MU-N1 by:

Stainless Steel 4" Tip 2.5" Diam M-N1 Muffler : Megan Racing
Megan Racing Stainless Steel 4" Tip 2.5" Diam M-N1 Muffler

Model Number : MU-N1

The M-N1 comes with a DOUBLE LAYER silencer that is able to reduce the loudness 30%. This muffler gains better response on higher RPM. We also have 3" turbo inlet available for this model.

Spec:
- 4" tip, 2.5" inlet, total lenght 19.5" and body width 5.5".
- Removable double layer silencer in BLACK .
- 100% sus 304 stainless steel
- Silver Chrome finish
- Strong and deep tone

Silencer is installed here in the tip:

The best way might be to put a long resonator in the middle of the exhaust, stock seems hella short.

I'm just going by what I saw on the lift the other day.

Well dude that depends on your point of view. If you want a really quiet car, I hear that Toyota is having a sale on the Prius. Leave it bone stock if you dont want it any louder. Thats as quiet as it will get... Or wear earplugs when you drive.

Catted DP would have been the way to go... quiet cruising, but aggressive when accelerating

I just tuned a muffler deleted catless LNF Balt (actually I have done a ton with that setup) it was not raspy at all especially after tuning. It is actually quiter than my car with the Borla XR1 on it.
