Need Help - Valvetrain???

I need some Guidance guys.

So here is the story.

Saturday evening on the Expressway, making a 3rd to 4th gear pull, I NLS at 6K rpm. At that point I heard a loud pop, and I slow the car down.

At this point I am about 5 miles from home. The car is still running great and is able to build boost, no loss of power.

I am still a little worried and when I get home, I look under the hood and have my wife rev the engine. The normal DI ticking is there, but there sounds to be an additional noise....like a rattle if you will.

I planed on taking the car to the dealership this Wednesday, however on the way to work today, the check engine light came on (about 5 miles down the road) and I have no boost.

Also a few times (not often) when shifting under light acceleration, I would hear a "pop" from the exhaust.

Still runs fine from what I can tell. Coolant is staying under 200 degrees.

I have a video of the car being rev'd in my garage. If someone can upload it for me I would appreciate it. PM me your email or cell #and I will send it.

I will try to get the codes of the car at lunch today or sooner if possible.

I would like to be able to limp the car along until Wednesday when I can go to the dealership (about 200 more miles), but want to ensure I am not further damaging anything.

As I mentioned before, the car is still running great, just no power.

For further reference: 2010 SS/TC, 50K Miles, K&N SRI, Catless, CP, ZZP IC, E85

Thanks for the help guys.

Possible a cam follower came off, but 6k is no big deal. Knowing what the code(s) is/are would help a lot. Pop the valve cover and do a visual inspection, maybe

Checked the codes. Only listed was P0101. I suspect this was from my K&N as I cleaned and oiled it last weekend. Runs like a champ again with full power.

Still need help diagnosing the valvetrain noise. Anyone who can post video please pm me an I will send over the video to post.

Thanks to all.

Ouch, that sounds bad. I'd get that valve cover off pretty quick and have a look.

I took it to the dealership. Apparently it sounds normal to them. The car runs great right now....so I will just keep driving it. If something more comes up I will take it back in.

They said if it was a broken lash or something else the car would not run properly and there would be a check engine light. I thought I read before you could have broken a broken lash or rocker arm without noticing it, but I dunno.

You can have a broken lash adjuster and not know it because you have two exhaust and two intake valves per cylinder, so if one lash adjuster goes, the the other valve is still working. PM Tomj77 and see if this noise is similar to his. He looked for it forever and found out it was a broken piston.

Is that video of ur car? Dealer is full of it, some guys have had broken lash adjusters and disnt know, no codes or nothing till they took off valve cover, I'd need to hear it, post video. Advice, take off ur valve cover and look, it's not hard, ten bolts I believe, just tighten then to 89 inch pounds when u put it back and use blue lock tight. If u have no torque wrench, get one lol the torque adapter u can put on a normal wrench with a digital display works great. Or just do it by feel, not to tight, just keep eye on it make sure it not leaking. But ya, if dealer doesn't check under cover, u do. What area of motor is it comming from? Could also maybe be loose timing chain, but ya I'd have to hear it. And ya taking off valve cover takes all of ten minutes, don't be scared it ain't hard lol

Yeah, thats the video of my car above. Take another listen and let me know what you think.

I am going to take off the cover this weekend.

The dealer charged me $50 just to look at it, as they did not fix anything under warranty....I was considering telling them to pull the valve cover and if they dont find anything they can charge me...but I will just do it myself since its easy...just have to find the time.
