New Motor Break in Period
I see everyone talk about varying RPMs, do you know the actual reason this is suggested?
As far as doing the first oil change early, i've always been a huge proponet of that, you never know what kind of crap is in there in the first run. Little pieces of metal can break off, casting flash, any irregularities or tolerances that wear in, all that gets suspended in the oil and pushed around the motor until the filter grabs it. The sooner you get that stuff out the better. I've always done 750-1000 mile first oil changes, whether it's a brand new car with nothing on it, or a built race motor I put together (although there is a more stringent process for those, idea is the same). The small extra cost of an early oil change is nothing to complain about compared to premature wear that causes problems down the road.

lol changing the oil and filter after 15-30 min of driving is a joke. id change the filter only at 100 miles, cut it open and see what it collected. then oil change and filter at 1000 and your set for normal maintenance...
Wasn't referring to first 30 mins of driving. I meant the first 30 mins of running.
