New turbo on LHU, which one to choose
I'm putting a new turbo on my car since i'm swapping the engine and I was wondering what turbo can I take if I want to stay below 400 whp but be better than the stock K04? I was looking for the K04R updrage but heard that turbo wasn't lasting very well, maybe a year or 2.
What bolt-on turbo can fit on the LHU without having to upgrade the pistons/rods, I just want to have a little more fun with it.

turbah
Here's a link to the website: https://bnrsupercars.wordpress.com/mazdaspeed-3-6-cx-7/ . It's for the k04 from a ms3/ms6, but he offers the same service for our turbo. I was reading a couple threads on the solstice/hhr ss forums and I saw couple guys make upper 300's to the wheels with it. I imagine with E you could go higher than that. I've just seen a few of the z54 peeps having trouble with blown turbos and that worried me especially since ZZP was giving them trouble about warranties, but those could be random cases so who knows.
Yeah and for that one you need a BOV too. That's a bigger version of what I was referring to. I'd email them and get specs and prices to verify if you want to go that route since it's not on their website. Regardless the z54 is $1200 anyway haha
The smaller bnr turbo is a lot like the Ko4r size-wise. The 2871 is a good durable turbo but as others have said you will have to run a bov. Only thing truly Bolton that is capable of 400whp on gas is a z54 or a zfr. Zfr is a lot better but twice the price. Boost ramp it and you will be fine along with the trans.
the zfr is a zzp turbo. essentially they buy an efr turbo from borg warner without the turbine housing, and they use a turbine housing they made specifically to fit the application. they also weld the extension to the compressor cover.
