Newb Questions

Okay sorry for the newb questions but I really need these few questions explained to me
With a aftermarket tune how is it that one can safely run past the 15 psi without upgrading the sensors as used in the GM stage kit?

Is it just “faking” a 3 bar for example?

I feel it would be a safer tune if the sensors were there….or atleast easier to tune due to resolution?

Next question im asking because well we all know how “QUICK” Trifecta responds to emails.

I currently have the 25 psi Trifecta tune….at least I think I do. Ive heard its not a safe tune on a stock TC. And on here all ive seen is everyone has a 23psi Trifecta tune.

So should I switch to be on the safe side? And which one is the Stealth tune?

I can switch back to 15psi with the cruise control button. (only reason im guessing im Trifecta tuned) Now since Im “tuned” is the “learn down feature” totally removed or is it actived once I switch back to stock 15 psi?

My first question is why would you ask for a 25psi tune a stock TC? You have the stealth tune if you use your cruise button to turn it on. I would recommend you upgrade to the three bar map senors they are cheap on crateenginedepot.com. If you are going to upgrade to 3 bar sensors get the harness upgrade kit so you dont have to solder wire, here is the links for the stuff you need
Cobalt, Solstice, HHR Stage Kit Harness Adapter 19212670H
3 Bar MAP Sensor 55206797 (two of these)
O-RING 3 Bar Map Sensor 12626998 (two of these)
After you oder that stuff just email Vince and tell him you need a tune for 3 bar map sensors.
On a side not if you email vince directly you will get a faster response and if you have trouble reaching him that way try wot-tuning.com send Steven a message he will get in touch with.

OP, you may be spiking to 25 psi, but I'm betting you have the "24 PSI Stealth Tune." Many have run this tune for years. I had a 20/24 psi Trifecta Stealth Tune for 2 years, but I rarely used the 24 psi, so I can't vouch for how safe it is. A good friend of mine has the 24 psi Stealth tune and spends a lot of his time at 24 psi, and hasn't had any issues. It is good to regularly log some runs and send them in for evaluation, though, with weather changes and such.

You don't really NEED the 3 bar sensors, either. It is recommended for accuracy, but it is not absolutely imperative. If you have Vince bump you down to 22psi, then you won't need them at all.

The stock MAP Sensors can read up to 2.5 bar accurately. 25 psi is pushing the turbo a bit past its efficiency. You may want to invest in some 3 bar sensors as stated above to read it more accurately.

Just to clear some things up briefly.

15psi is just roughly under 2bars of absolute pressure. 1bar=14.5psi but you must compensate for atmospheric pressure, which at sea level is 1bar, or 100kpa, or 14.5psi. With that said, a 2.5bar sensor is good to accurately read up to just that, 2.5bars of pressure, or about 21.7psi. The stock 2.5bar sensors however have some head room built into them, so the sensor can actually accurately register up to 23.5psi, or 2.6bars of pressure. Long and short of it, anything over 23.5psi without the 3bar sensors is literally a guessing game due to quite a few different variables. I personally wouldn't go much over 24psi on the stock turbo, but that is just my personaly preference.

After close review I am pushing 24psi. Usually I just glance at the RPD while holding on tight to the steering wheel. LOL.

Okay so some say YES and some say NO.

So I guess the real question is considering Im pushing past the 23psi....will WE benefit from upgrading the MAP sensors and getting a retune?

Oh and thanks for the links to the sensors!
