odd ss/tc problem, looking for ans.

so i searched a little and commented on a thread but no response, i was wondering if anyone has had this problem yet?

i am having a weird problem, second gear is fine, and if i NLS into third my car runs fine, but if i start in third it boosts like 25 (my tune is set to 21) and feels like there is no "real put you in your seat type of pull", til the boost drops down to 21 again (1-2 seconds later.... almost feels like turbo lag)..... i'm pretty sure it is just the clutch (getting spec stage 3+ shortly) but i was wondering if this sounded similar to a problem anyone else is having cause i don't think (even tho it feels like it is) it's the clutch for one reason.... why would i boost too high when (if) the clutch is spinning?

p.s. if this is the clutch i guess i have to wait to get tuned (have the money for trifecta on hand but this problem makes me think getting tuned right now would be a waste of money, besides the fact that the tune would be hidden from gm if it gets to the point that i have no idea what is causing this problem....) now that i think of it, it kinda reminds me of when i had a problem with my boost solenoid(spelling?)...

ooo and if you think it is a blown turbo, i checked that stuff out, no oil, or anything like that, and the spool sounds normal under full boost (so i'm assuming no leaks)

EDIT: also my mods are tune time performance tune, clear image automotive catless dp, and k&n drop in air filter

If it was turbo lag you wouldn't have boost

Im guessing knock. Ill bet your tune is fine at 22psi but when you spike more load it knocks. Just a guess without looking at a thing.

1st question...When you say "if I start in 3rd gear"...what RPM/MPH are you talking about?....3rd is really long and it will feel like there is an insane amount of turbo lag if you start out going to slow in that gear.

EDIT: And I don't think it would be knock because even on a dyno (where the RPMs start out pretty low) my Boost spiked up to about 25-26psi and then trailed off as the RPMs grew...and I can assure you my car doesn't knock.

when i start in 3rd gear from 60-65 mph i'll punch it, the boost will jump up to 25psi, then drop down to 21 and start to pull like normal

feels like turbo lag lol i know it isn't turbo lag

ok then i will just go ahead and get tuned, just need to order the stuff from trifecta lol just wanted to see what everyone thought on the issue, and getting tuned will at least help me figure out what is going on better lol

OK so you hit it...Boost jumps up but car does nothing? Or Boost jumps up but it just feels almost like a slow surge of power as the RPMs climb?

Does the RPM's rise but the car doesnt move, then it catches and goes? That would be clutch slip

Edit: You're in PA/NJ, so am I

the second one, but once the rpm's get to a certain point it feels normal again

i know and if you could do the hidden tune thing i would be getting tuned by you.... just saying lol.... especially since on 22psi wern't you as fast as a trifecta tuned balt on 24psi.... and don't you also (like trifecta) have one of the cars you tuned trapping 115mph with my mods?

If at all possible Id say get a log of this happening, that way, youll be able to better trouleshoot the problem. But it sounds to me like cluth slip if its catching after the fact.

not really possible unless byt is in the generous mood, i'm pretty sure it's the clutch, but i have no clue why the car would boost higher than what it is tuned for cause the clutch is slipping.....

Ive trapped 115.4 as a best. And my 22psi was pretty much dead even with a 24psi TF car, correct.

HP Tunes CAN be hidden from the dealer btw Not knocking TF AT ALL, but having a good local custom tuner is a benefit people should take advantage of
