Oil Cooler for SSTC?
Oil Cooler for SSTC?
Anyone know if you can get an oil cooler for the TC? When I push the car really hard the oil temp goes up to about 255F. I know the oil gets hotter on some cars, but I would still feel better if I had an oil cooler. Any thoughts?
im not saying whether or not you should, but I bet you could take the stock oil cooler outta the engine coolant loop (replace coolant lines with those from a NA car) then run the oil cooler on its own coolant circuit with an intercooler pump from a SC car.
just remember that most oils break down at anything above 230* F... You need to run an oil that doesnt have a flash point or doesnt breakdown till a higher temp...like amsoil.
run an oil pressure gauge and youll see what happens after heat cycling your oil above 230*

The stock oil temp calculation is off. It's not a real gauge, so don't rely on it. On track, the oil temp is around 300F in the head.
Does that require an additional oil cooler? Well, not really if you're just doing 30 minute sessions. Any more, and I'd say yes.

Sounds like it may not be worth the hassle of trying to get an auxiliary oil cooler installed. I would just feel a lot better about running the car hot and hard (insert joke here) if I could keep the temps down a bit more.
Thanks for the replies.
Wow. 300F? Good to know. My gauge (Dashdaq) was reading about 255.
