Oil Smell In Exhaust

Is it normal to be able to smell faint amounts of oil in the exhaust at times? Ive also seen trace amounts of oil in the turbo inlet pipe.

Its not in the charge pipe. I saw it when I replaced the intake. It was in the turbo inlet that the intake connects to.

Seals going out or possibly a bad pcv valve. Shouldn't have oil there.

Not to freak you out or anything, but when mine had the same symptoms it was a warning of my rings going bad. Had blowby, oil in the inlet of the turbo, spread to the CP's and then kept blowing MAP sensors. Eventually cylinder 3 had 90psi compression and the others were around 140-160ish. Oil smell in the exhaust as well eventually turned into blue smoke.

Hmmm did the dealer cover this under warranty? Only warranty i have left is power train. Probably need to take off the intake and dp before i go to the dealer

As long as you don't have a tune it should be covered under the powertrain warranty if it is mechanical failure. Might be better to remove the intake and dp as well.

Worth a shot bringing it in.

had same thing happen. it's covered under powertrain. take your mods off just to be safe. they even had to send gm a snapshot of my ecu calibration and they didn't know i had been tuned

So you had the same exact problem? What was it after all? did you have bumper to bumper swell?

yeah but my dealer was an ass when i brought the car in before about the turbo because there was no code. they told me if the turbo goes out to bring it in. so when my car started smoking and **** i suspected the turbo was going but i had no code so i drove it till it finally siezed up. i went to start the car one day and had no turbo...bearings siezed up. take the intake off and wiggle the shaft and if there is play it is starting to go. if there is no play you likely have a boost leak causing the turbo to overboost and causing the seals to leak.

no had the mods in my sig minus the catch can but they were only on for maybe 2k miles before the turbo went. the turbo was bad before the mods...i had it in the shop 3 times for a surging/fluttering issue that they wouldn't fix. the dealer said no code no fix. the turbo was pretty much toast before i modded and tuned it plus it had about 90k on it by that time.

Well I pulled the intake off and checked the turbo inlet, no oil. A lot of black carbon though, also no noticeable play(going by feel). Thoughts?

You're prob fine then. You were saying you had oil in your turbo inlet. When your car starts literally smoking dark blue, then worry.

I remember I had a small amount when I installed my CAI about 8 months ago. When I took it off to check today I didnt find any, just black dust(carbon). I pushed on the turbo fins with my finger blindly and didnt feel it move and I did it several times. Think im ok? I only notice smoke on startup, generally white. Coolant seems fine(slightly below the cold fill mark). Oil level seems fine. On a side note, I know our trannys dont have a dipstick, but I seem to recall there being a hole to fill up oil that is capped with a plastic plug. Is this correct? If not I may be confused with my 09 Cobalt LT that I traded in for this 08 beauty.

I installed charge piping and an intake last year and I too had oil in my intake and turbo inlet. It was a small pool at the inlet but I wasnt worried. That was on the stock tune. The charge pipe also had oil in it. Completely normal if you ask me. Its the reason people do catch cans. Not burning oil here either.

that plug is metal IIRC. And what do you mean by white smoke? Is it cold out where you are cause if so its just condensation. These cars throw out ridiculous amounts of condensation and fuel on cold start ups with the cat warm up cycle unless its disabled.
