OTTP Intercooler Pipes Kit
I told cha! I am planning to do something with my stock charge pipe. I am gonna upgrade ZZP charge pipe coupler for sure and I am gonna spray heat resistant then use Krylon Fusion to seal up heat resistant paint. See how that goes, I am sure it will work.
You could always use heat resistant wrap that you use for the header but use that wrap up stock charge pipes then spray with Krylon Fusion. That could work and I am sure it will hold up.
I'm going to be wrapping my lower zzp charge pipe with heat reflective tape and see how much IAT2 change. With just zzp's hot side and a k&n intake my IAT2 matched ambient when cruising, and increased slowly at idle (IAT went higher faster though). Not sure if I'll get to it this weekend since I'm helping install a zfr and have to figure out if I have a wrap rotor or hung up caliper piston
Header wrap is overpriced for this application, just reflective tape or tubes like what came stock over half the lines near the turbo should work well
I will, using hptuners and I'm talking with my companies interface and control group to see if I can snag a few thermocouples for better ambient air temp as well as temp in the engine bay near the lower pipe
If You could try both ZZP and Stock Charge Pipes like what you are planning to do with ZZP charge pipe and do the same with stock charge pipe too. Show the difference with result then I am sure ZZP will figure a better way with our charge pipes.
You sure it's not butt dyno, placebo, or another variable? "Seems to frankly pull a bit harder" you sound a bit unsure of yourself...
I love mah K&N SRI too much I will take insy winsy tiny 3hp hit if there is any... I couldn't detect anything in my butt dyno when I installed it(gains or loses), but it hasn't been calibrated by anyone.

I'm totally sure of myself. The car is deffinitly stronger. Especially down low. Idk if maybe there is a bit of air velocity difference as well ? Idk much about the physics of it all. But I know for sure that my car is deffinitly stronger feeling and a bit faster. I for bone personally did not believe Mr Powell when I started reading his posts saying that the kn sri could have a negative effect. Or that metal charge pipes could hold more heat and what not. I guess i was drunk off the kool-aid. Lol ... but after outlying it back to stock and given it a chance. It is deffinitly faster. And that has been verified by my torque app. Not only does it say more HP and trq now. But my 0-60 times are lower and faster now too. By a fair amount.

So your butt dyno can feel this hp loss? And you think if people with metal charge pipe's re-dyno'd they would gain noticeable power?
Maybe it's due to you being on GMS1. And GMS1 being setup ideally for all factory parts.

Well not only my butt dyno. But torque app on my phone agrees as well. But maybe that is a bit of a butt dyno tool as well. I can't speak for everyone. Or anyone else. But there are more then just myself that has noticed a gain by going back to stock pipes. All I can say is try it for yourself and see what you think. What can it hurt ? If you disagree. You could always reinstall everything again. I reluctantly tried it out. And I was surprised at the difference. I know if you ask john. ( Powell) he will say to stay away from that stuff as well.
We need to prove that metal or plastic charge pipe either works better. John Powell knows what he is talking about. Why don't you take it up to him cause he has experienced a lot of things! LOL! Cause I know I had experienced metal and plastic charge pipes and I kept my eyes on IAT. You could see the difference and feel the difference. Why don't you try put stock charge pipe back on then you will be SMILING!

x2
I have stock lower CP and my IAT2's will climb when the car is sitting still. Has nothing to do with metal vs plastic, it has to do with the fact that the sensor is right next to a hot engine block and is absorbing heat. when you start moving the IAT2s will drop.
I'm still on factory charge piping too. I will upgrade the full intercooling system when/if I switch to a bigger turbo and need the reliability.
I never knew charge piping was considered to add any hp at all, only for looks/reliability. Which is why it's weird you're experiencing a noticeable difference in power from an item that never gave any.
I installed a 3" zzp catted downpipe 3 days ago. I can honestly not feel a difference in my butt dyno. Even though I'm sure I made some gain.

Update! Ok, OTTP Charge Pipes is NOT WORTH IT! Cause it's made of mild steel not aluminum. They are very heavy and heat soak really bad. It take a while for IAT to get down, I sold it and decided to go back stock plastic charge pipes with ZZP intercooler. I've noticed aluminum charge pipes do heat soak as well by some member has report their IAT does rise up. Yes, It's worth it to go back stock charge pipes and instantly drop IAT very fast. My experience with ZZP intercooler with stock charge pipes is only 4-6 degree above normal temperature. OTTP charge pipes is 15 degree or more higher IAT when the weather gets hot! You will feel sluggish and slow with those charge pipes. I've realized it's not worth to go "metal" charge pipes. I hope manufacturer will look this up and use stronger Plastic, Carbon Fiber, or will be nice to have Silica Nanofibres. Silica Nanofibres are found in England by their engineer. They are lighter than Plastic and stronger than Steel! That would be very nice to have for our charge pipes!
Also as I remember cost was a big factor in your purchase. Metal is the cheapest option, anything else you listed would be very expensive.
Yes ! I am GMS1. I know that my car didn't GAIN any hp by adding the cp. I never expected to gain any hp when installing my injen cp. But what i didn't expect to have happen was to loose a bit of power. So all that REALLY happened by re-installing the stock cp's was i gained the power i lost BACK. I'm not going to lie to you and say that it was A LOT. Or blah blah blah. But I can and know for a fact that the car feels more responsive now. And a bit faster. Torque app is reading about 13 ish hp higher and I seem to be running almost 2 tenths quicker from 0-60mph. Thats all I know. I tested the car first. Went home, reinstalled stock stuff. And re-tested it. Not only did the car FEEL faster. Turns out it really was !
I understand what you are saying. I was skepticail as well untill I said " What the hell " and tried it myself. I don't expect anyone to just go running home and start pulling parts off to try it. All I can say is it worked better for myself ! To each there own !
If everything is stock a set of charge pipes aren't going to do anything for you. They would be for looks. Once you start modifying they are for reliability and the ability to relocate the maf and run a bov.

Whoa, hang on there man. Look who talking looking for cheaper to product your stuff ? Everybody had dumping their money on metal charge pipes and has proven the fact it has raise IAT. Going back from metal to stock plastic charge pipe is the best thing to do. I am sure higher horsepower guys are trying to find the answer why their metal charge pipe raise IAT. You or the company could do better than metal charge pipes. Cause the only thing is working is ZZP intercooler on my car. You need to becareful with your reputations here. Cause you just posted up which you want it to be made China or America ? That tells me you at looking for cheaper place to make your product then sell your products higher price. Then bad things happen with your product then whoever or I need to go to you. Cause I have your products here and I am just stating the truth about your charge pipes. If you can't or don't like the truth then make it better. Simple as that like you did with supercharged front mount heat exchanger.
I think that might be going a bit far there !! I didn't really get from him that he wanted to make his pipes from or in China ? I think he was just pointing out that most cobalt owners are cheap asses and would never spend the money on a expensive plastic or fiber cp. Lol
