Owners Of Catless DPs, I have a question

Well two questions:
I will be buying a CIA downpipe(yes I decided to go with that brand)
1)Most say it's loud, can you give a frame of reference? Like will I run the risk of getting pulled over due to noise? Or is that just at wide open throttle and usually its acceptable?

2)I have never gone catless, how are the fumes? My cobalt is parked underground, and it's not that well ventilated. I don't want a bunch of smelly, noxious fumes down there. How bad is the smell?

Thanks!

if u have a full exhaust you'll be fine hardly any noise
turbo cars are usualy quiet unless they go open down pipe

I have the CIA catless DP and a totally stock intake and exhaust otherwise. The sound is awesome at heavier throttle positions. However, on the highway and cruising it's barely louder then stock, so it really is the best of both worlds. You will love it. Only thing I would say is that if you are passing near a cop, don't floor it (you would be stupid to anyways) and you will be just fine.

That's not exactly true. I had a full 3" turboback exhaust on my old car and it was loud as hell.

It gives a nice growl during normal driving, at WOT it's pretty loud. I'm still running the stock exhaust past the downpipe. It's not unbearable at all, and I'm starting to get use to it enough that I might delete the muffler.

It gives off some interesting fumes, but I like it.

CIA catless does not throw codes. at least not with alot of people

Like many said. only Under WOT does it get louder. but just cruising. sounds stock.

I ran stock cat back and catless DP for a month or 2. it sounds really nice.

Yeah, the videos I saw on Youtube with the delete made me stop considering it. I love how the car growls when I get on it, but quiets down as soon as I set the cruise for my 40 min each way commute.

well, I'd rather have performance over sound.

Once I install the DP, if it's too loud for my tastes then I'll put the stock muffler back on. Yes, I lose the gurgles, etc., but I'll go faster!

My thoughts exactly...I want to order either CIA's or ZZP's DP (leaning toward ZZP only because of the cost)...but I'm scared that I'll be THAT GUY...the one that people look at going..."please shut that car off!!!"

well luckily I asked the shop to give me my muffler back, so if it gets too loud, I'll put the muffler back on and call it done. At cruising/idle it sounds stock, but when you WOT it gives it that nice growl!

From what I have read there will be no performance gain with the muffler delete. Our stock exhaust flows quite well.

Yeah I know I was just looking for some cheap sound when I did that mod. And who knows maybe I'll put the stock muffler back on if it gets too loud with the addition of a DP.

question on this downpipe conversation...People say you can run a 3" dp with the stock exhaust...would that be pointless? Or since our exhaust is supposedly pretty good, would that be a beneficial mod if one might not get a full 3" exhaust for a while? Logically the whole larger to smaller deal doesn't quite make sense to me but maybe ya'll can help.

duhh, there isn't a performance gain with a MD. It's simply a sound mod. I knew this and know it going into what I ordered.

I was statting that with a catless DP I'll go faster than with my stock DP, I'll be quieter than I am now and lose my gurggles, but I'll go faster.

if you have too large of an exhaust you can lose back pressure which would be bad. The stock DP is the most restrictive part of the car. That frees up enough flow for the exhaust to exit, hence 15whp gained. Our stock ID's are perfect for up to 400hp. No need to go spending $$ on something that will yield you little results (full exhaust)
