if you have too large of an exhaust you can lose back pressure which would be bad. The stock DP is the most restrictive part of the car. That frees up enough flow for the exhaust to exit, hence 15whp gained. Our stock ID's are perfect for up to 400hp. No need to go spending $$ on something that will yield you little results (full exhaust)
No, back pressure is bad in any situation.

Back pressure is a restriction.

And on a turbo car, you have a ridiculous amount of back pressure because of the turbo.

This is why turbos like to have like, no exhaust on them. Back pressure is the wrong word to try to describe what you are.

What about with a S/C? Everything stock except intake. Catless DP. Stupid question, is that the only cat we have or is there 1 farther back in the exhaust (I've never looked)

Logically the whole larger to smaller deal doesn't quite make sense to me but maybe ya'll can help.
Well think of it this way if you will. The way your seeing it is even if we make the 3 feet of down pipe segment 1/2 in bigger in diameter the exhaust is still restricted to 2.5 inches at the 5 feet of exhaust. But I see it as the the total 8 feet of restrictive exhaust has just been reduced to 5 feet since we released (to degree) the restrictions of 3 feet of that exhaust and the most restrictive part at that. Every one knows that a shorter exhaust of the same diameter is free-er flowing and less restrictive since the exhaust has less distance to travel congested.

^If you look at it that way, you'll understand the whole 3.0in to 2.5in thing.

This BY NO WAY means that just cutting off three feet of your exhaust from the back end gives the same results, cause you still have the restrictive downpipe.

However replace the downpipe with a 2.5in mendrel bent pipe to match the exhaust and then cut 3 feet off, you'll have free-er flowing exhaust.

Since I live in Cali and we have the emissions thing, could a cop smell the fumes of the catless downpipe and then i get pulled over if he was right behind me? Or if i got pulled over for having to load of an exhaust could he figure it out or is it pretty hard to figure out?

And wouldn't it make sense that if you got a 3in downpipe to get a 3in exhaust? Because im really stuck between getting a 3in exhaust with 3in dp or keeping our stock exhaust with a 3in downpipe.

i only have a measley 2.2 with a high flow and if you stand back there when its running you can sure as hell smell it.

then again i think i'm running a bit rich.

but it won't take a rocket scientist of a cop to realize youre catless. it has a very distinctive smell.

not too sure honestly.

i would assume something along those lines. but seeing that you live in California, the most pollution crazed state in America you might go to jail.

haha jk

but really, going catless in Cali probably isn't the best idea. but that's just me.

so you're saying that even without a tune you'll gain 15whp with a CIA downpipe? what about the CIA hi-flow?

good question. I just got mine installed today thanks to rallycobalt06! He used the same exhaust gasket that was on before. there is no gasket between the turbo and the downpipe.

The CIA downpipe, is definately a WIN!
